Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Transportation Planning and Operations Internship is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The program is designed to round out participants' academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path..

Our Transportation Planning & Operations team works with public, private, and institutional clients to support a variety of projects. Our services include operational analysis, multimodal planning, conceptual design, parking analysis, and safety evaluations. We collaborate across our footprint with numerous other VHB groups such as Traffic Design, Transportation Engineering, Environmental and Land Development on many of our transformative projects.

Responsibilities

    Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
  • Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions
  • Assist in data mining and visualization
  • Perform analysis of data or calculations
  • Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
  • Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
  • Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, planning or a related field
  • Strong interest in transportation, land development, urban design, real estate, environmental, institutional, or energy sector
  • Ability to work on a computer remotely if necessary
  • Ability to travel locally and complete fieldwork if necessary

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Massachusetts, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
