Description and Requirements
Chief of Staff, SSG Marketing Description and Requirements Lenovo's Solutions & Services Group (SSG) is seeking a highly strategic, driven and collaborative Chief of Staff to the Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer of SSG. The Chief of Staff will serve as a trusted partner to the CMO and SSG Marketing leadership team, helping translate strategy into action, drive our highest-priority initiatives, strengthen storytelling and communications, and ensure strong execution and accountability across the global marketing organization. A key part of the role is helping the CMO and leadership team stay focused on outcomes, not simply activity. What are we trying to accomplish? How will we know if it's working? And are we spending our time on the things that will have the greatest impact? This role requires a unique combination of strategic thinking, strong marketing experience, exceptional storytelling and communications skills, operational discipline, and curiosity about technology and AI. In other words, someone who loves great marketing and a great story, appreciates a good deadline, and gets genuinely excited about what AI could change next. The Chief of Staff will also play a key role in the AI transformation of SSG Marketing, helping rethink how our people, processes, workflows and tools evolve as AI fundamentally changes how marketing work gets done.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Execution
- Serve as a trusted thought partner and advisor to the SSG CMO and Marketing leadership team on key business, marketing and organizational priorities.
- Support strategic alliance priorities as needed, helping connect key partner opportunities to SSG strategy, marketing priorities and executive engagements.
- Help the CMO and leadership team maintain a relentless focus on business and marketing outcomes, not simply activities and deliverables.
- Challenge teams to clearly define what success looks like, how it will be measured and how their work connects to broader SSG priorities.
- Translate strategic priorities into clear outcomes, actions, owners and milestones and drive follow-through across the organization.
- Regularly pressure-test priorities: Are we working on the right things? Is the work having the intended impact? What should we stop, change or accelerate?
- Lead and support high-priority, cross-functional initiatives that span multiple teams or require coordination across SSG, other Lenovo business groups, GEOs and Worldwide Marketing.
- Identify emerging issues, opportunities and potential roadblocks, bringing recommendations and solutions rather than simply surfacing problems.
- Help distinguish between being busy and making progress. Both can fill a calendar; only one is the goal.
- Represent the CMO in selected meetings and initiatives as appropriate, while ensuring the CMO remains closely connected to the organization and its most important work.
Storytelling & Executive Communications
- Serve as a key storytelling and communications partner to the CMO and Marketing leadership team.
- Review executive presentations, business reviews, charts, data and other critical materials to ensure they communicate a clear, compelling storyline and message. A collection of 30 individually good slides does not necessarily make a good story.
- Help teams get to the "so what?" quickly, turning complex strategies, technologies and data into stories people can understand, remember and act on.
- Partner with teams to raise the overall standard of storytelling and executive communications across SSG Marketing.
- Identify recurring opportunities to improve how the organization communicates and help build stronger storytelling capabilities across the team, reducing the need for the same feedback to be given again and again.
- Support the development of executive presentations, leadership communications, talking points, briefing materials and other high-impact content.
Operating Rhythm & Accountability
- Help drive an effective operating rhythm for the SSG Marketing leadership team, including leadership meetings, business reviews, strategic planning and other key forums.
- Ensure important decisions translate into action and that commitments, dependencies and deadlines are clearly understood and delivered. We like good ideas. We like good ideas that actually happen even more.
- Drive accountability and follow-through across key initiatives, proactively identifying risks, bottlenecks and gaps.
- Bring urgency and discipline to execution without creating unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
- Help ensure leadership time and organizational resources remain focused on the highest-value priorities.
- Continuously look for opportunities to simplify how the organization operates and improve speed, collaboration and effectiveness.
AI Transformation
- Help drive the AI transformation of SSG Marketing. We're not looking to sprinkle AI on top of everything we already do. We're looking to rethink how the work itself gets done.
- Partner with Marketing leaders and other Lenovo organizations to identify opportunities to improve marketing effectiveness, productivity, speed and quality through AI.
- Help redesign processes and workflows around AI rather than simply applying AI to existing ways of working.
- Help define the people, capabilities, processes and tools required for an increasingly AI-enabled marketing organization.
- Identify opportunities for human + AI collaboration, automation and AI agents across marketing workflows.
- Help move AI adoption from experimentation toward scaled use cases and measurable business impact.
- Stay relentlessly curious about AI: experiment, learn, challenge us and help separate what's genuinely transformational from what's simply the latest shiny object.
Cross-Organization Connectivity
- Help strengthen connectivity between SSG Marketing, other Lenovo business groups, GEO Marketing teams and Worldwide Marketing.
- Maintain visibility into key initiatives across Lenovo Marketing and identify where SSG should participate, influence, lead or leverage work happening elsewhere.
- Connect people and initiatives across organizational boundaries to reduce duplication, share best practices and improve collaboration.
- Surface relevant developments, opportunities and issues to the CMO and SSG Marketing leadership team.
- Help ensure SSG's priorities, capabilities and successes are effectively represented in broader Lenovo Marketing initiatives.
Position Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience, with a track record of increasing responsibility and impact in complex organizations.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on B2B marketing experience required. Candidates must have directly owned, developed and/or executed B2B marketing strategies, programs or campaigns. Experience working alongside marketing teams, without direct marketing responsibility, does not meet this requirement.
- Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field
- Technology marketing experience strongly preferred, particularly in enterprise technology, solutions and/or services.
- Deep understanding of modern B2B marketing and how brand, communications, demand generation, digital, events, customer engagement, product/portfolio marketing and sales activation work together to drive business outcomes.
- Strong executive storytelling and presentation-development skills, with demonstrated experience turning complex business, technology and marketing topics into clear, compelling narratives and executive-level presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate marketing strategies, programs and communications, challenge assumptions, ask the right questions and help teams improve the quality and effectiveness of their work.
- Additional experience in strategy, business operations, consulting and/or transformation is highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the technology, IT services, consulting or solutions industry.
- Strong and growing knowledge of AI and its implications for business, marketing and the future of work.
- Experience leading or supporting organizational, digital or AI transformation initiatives.
- Experience working within a large, global and highly matrixed organization.
- Demonstrated curiosity and passion for learning about emerging technologies, services, solutions and new approaches to marketing.
What We're Looking For The successful candidate will combine five important qualities:
- Strategic, outcome-oriented operator: You can move seamlessly between strategy and execution, bring structure to ambiguity and keep people focused on the result we're trying to achieve, not simply completing the task. You believe "What outcome are we driving?" and "Who owns this and when will it be done?" are perfectly reasonable questions.
- Exceptional storyteller: You can look at a complicated deck, chart, strategy or set of data and quickly figure out the story buried inside it. And you're willing to say when there isn't one.
- Trusted thought partner: You bring strong judgment, discretion and an independent point of view and are comfortable constructively challenging senior leaders, including the CMO. Politely is preferred.
- AI transformation leader: You're passionate about using AI to fundamentally improve how organizations and people work, not simply deploying new tools.
- Experienced marketer and curious technologist: You bring strong marketing experience and instincts and understand what great marketing looks like. You're equally curious about what's next, with a genuine desire to keep building your knowledge of AI, technology, services and solutions.
Above all, we're looking for someone who can be a force multiplier for the CMO and SSG Marketing leadership team: someone who makes our thinking sharper, our storytelling better, our organization more connected and our execution faster. Success isn't a completed action list. It's a better business outcome. If you love great marketing, emerging technology, complicated problems, moving fast and occasionally asking uncomfortable but necessary questions, you'll probably enjoy this job.
We follow a friendly hybrid model with three days a week in the office-great for collaboration and connection!
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any federal, state, or local protected class.
