General Notes

The police officer position requires applicant to be currently Licensed Peace Officer in the State of Texas. The work assignment will be at the University of Texas Austin Medical District working at Dell Seton Medical Center. The position requires an officer to work closely with Dell Seton Medical security and staff to serve the workers and patients, and visitors of the hospital and District.

Purpose

The officer will be responsible for responding to calls for service at the hospital, conducting thorough investigations of criminal activity/assaults and mental health/POED evaluations at DSM, and routinely patrolling the areas for safety/visibility.

Responsibilities
  • Investigates crimes against persons.
  • Seize, test, and submit drug evidence.
  • Prepare detailed reports and complete necessary documentation, such as affidavits when arrests are made or POED forms.
  • Interview patients for mental health needs for a POED.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the ER and surrounding Medical District properties.
  • Investigates property crimes.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies.
  • Testify in court proceedings related to investigations.
Required Qualifications

Applicant must possess a current TCOLE peace officer license and a minimum of two (2) years of active Law Enforcement Service as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas. High school diploma or GED. Must be able to pass the required UT System physical fitness test. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Criminal history must not contain any felonies or misdemeanors above a class C within the last 10 years. Stable work history. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Able to provide creditable testimony in a court of law. Must have an acceptable driving record and be eligible to operate a UT owned vehicle. Ability to complete and review forms in detail with accuracy and in a timely manner. Possess a valid Texas driver's license and are eligible to drive a university owned or leased vehicle. Must be able to successfully pass a probationary training period.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years of experience assigned as a full time officer at a full service law enforcement agency. Have completed formal training and demonstrated successful practical application of techniques in mental health response and deescalation. Effective written and oral communications skills. Have experience in a mental health unit at a law enforcement agency. Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$85,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
  • This is a full-time 40 hour per week assignment.
