Senior Software Engineer, Security Solution - Triage & Investigation

The lantern team builds the Elastic Security experiences that analysts use to triage alerts, investigate threats, and advance work forward.

We help people understand what happened, review the evidence, and choose what to do next. Our work covers alert triage, investigations, and escalation. We are also building AI-guided features that help analysts act faster while keeping people in control.

As a senior engineer, you will lead technical work across this area. You will work with product, design, and engineering partners to turn complex problems into clear, reliable experiences for security teams.

Lantern is a distributed team. We work across time zones and collaborate in GitHub, Slack, design reviews, and code reviews.

• Build secure, accessible, and fast investigation workflows in Kibana.
• Own small-to-medium projects from technical design through production.
• Improve how users triage alerts, review evidence, collaborate, and escalate work.
• Write high-quality TypeScript and React code, with Node.js services and APIs where needed.
• Work with product and design to make complex analyst workflows easier to use.
• Make functional trade-offs across usability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Review code, mentor teammates, and improve team practices.
• Partner with teams across Elastic Security, Kibana, Support, and the open-source community.

• Several years of experience building and maintaining production software.
• Deep TypeScript and JavaScript skills, especially with React and Node.js.
• Experience building user-facing workflows backed by APIs, data models, and services.
• Comfort taking an unclear problem, proposing an approach, and leading it to completion.
• A proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code, while still owning the final outcomes.
• The ability to collaborate across functions and teams and seamlessly transition between different projects, codebases, or teams based on business priorities
• Care for quality, including testing, telemetry, accessibility, security, and performance.
• Experience with technical design and constructive code review.
• Interest in security analysts' work and the challenges of investigation and incident response.

• Experience with Kibana, Elasticsearch, or Elastic Security.
• Experience with SIEM, security operations, detection engineering, or incident response.
• Experience building AI-assisted or agent-guided workflows with human controls.
• Open-source contributions or experience with large open-source codebases.
