Education Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent payroll, accounting, or finance experience may be considered.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
  • Ongoing knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.


Experience Requirements



  • 5+ years of payroll administration, payroll management, or payroll specialist experience, including multi-state payroll processing.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, wage laws, garnishments, and employee deductions.
  • Experience with payroll systems, ERP platforms, timekeeping integrations, and payroll tax reconciliations.
  • Proven ability to investigate payroll discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and implement process improvements.
  • Construction payroll, prevailing wage, and job-costing experience preferred.


Physical Capabilities



  • Ability to work in an office environment and use computer systems for extended periods.
  • Ability to review detailed payroll records, reports, and financial data with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with employees, management, HR, Operations, and Accounting teams.


Job Duties



  • Manage end-to-end weekly payroll processing for multi-state operations, ensuring accurate and timely employee compensation.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll laws, tax regulations, garnishments, benefits deductions, and wage requirements.
  • Process payroll tax filings, reconciliations, deposits, and multi-state withholding requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and partner with Accounting on month-end reporting and financial accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and compliance-related issues.
  • Maintain and improve payroll systems, ERP integrations, and payroll workflows to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Develop standardized payroll procedures, internal controls, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations, Finance, and leadership to support payroll accuracy, compliance, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for payroll compliance, process excellence, and payroll accuracy.
