Position Summary:

The Financial Analyst - Cost Accounting & Inventory is responsible for supporting the company's cost accounting processes, inventory valuation, forecasting, and financial analysis with a particular focus on inventory management. This role partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Accounting to ensure inventory accuracy, support month-end close activities, analyze manufacturing performance, and provide actionable insights that improve profitability and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory balances and ensure accurate valuation of Inventory.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations of Inventory purchases, consumption, transfers, recoveries, and scrap.
  • Analyze Inventory usage and yield, identifying opportunities to improve recovery rates and reduce losses.
  • Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, including reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
  • Track Inventory market pricing and evaluate financial impacts on inventory valuation, manufacturing costs, and customer pricing.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations to improve inventory controls and optimize inventory levels.

Cost Accounting

  • Support monthly cost accounting close activities, including inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, and journal entries.
  • Analyze purchase price, labor, overhead, scrap, and production variances and communicate key drivers to management.
  • Assist with standard cost development, annual cost roll updates, and ongoing standard cost maintenance.
  • Partner with Operations to improve manufacturing cost visibility and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Perform inventory reserve analysis and assist with excess and obsolete inventory reviews.
  • Support internal and external audits related to inventory and manufacturing accounting.

Forecasting & Financial Analysis

  • Help prepare monthly forecasts and assist with the annual budgeting process for manufacturing operations.
  • Help develop variance analyses comparing actual results to forecast, budget, and prior year performance.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance, inventory trends, and key operational metrics to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Create and maintain financial models to support business decisions and operational improvements.
  • Prepare management reporting packages and present financial insights to business partners.

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in financial analysis, cost accounting, or manufacturing finance.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing finance.
  • Knowledge of inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, Power Query, and financial modeling.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to both finance and operational leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Good to have:

  • Medical device or highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience with standard costing and inventory accounting.
  • Experience working with Inventory accounting or high-value inventory.

Salary Range: $85,000 to $110,000 based on skills and experience
