Position Description

Team Lead - Retail Financial Center Renovations

The Retail Financial Center Renovations Team Lead will drive the execution of comprehensive interior, exterior, and ATM renovation projects for a financial services client across the retail banking network. The ideal candidate will combine deep construction management expertise with strategic leadership, managing a team of 4-6 Project Managers who deliver projects ranging from $100k to $5M+. This role requires someone who understands the unique demands of occupied retail financial environments and can balance brand consistency, operational continuity, and customer experience throughout the renovation process.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Recruit, develop, and manage a high-performing team of project professionals dedicated to retail banking renovations

  • Provide clear direction, mentorship, and strategic guidance while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence

  • Demonstrate high energy and decisive leadership, making tough decisions when necessary to drive project success

  • Ensure comprehensive team training in client procedures, retail banking operational requirements, and renovation best practices

  • Build team expertise in managing work within occupied retail centers with minimal disruption to banking operations

  • Conduct regular one-on-one coaching meetings and lead weekly team meetings

  • Ensure 100% completion of performance evaluations including midyear and year-end reviews

  • Establish succession plans and career development plans for team members

  • Maintain vacancy time to fill of less than 45 days

Client Partnership & Stakeholder Management:

  • Serve as primary point of contact for key client stakeholders, building trusted advisor relationships

  • Drive a "Trusted Advisor" culture throughout all levels of the team, operating with a "no surprise" approach

  • Maintain transparent communication channels, keeping leadership informed of project status, risks, and opportunities

  • Cultivate strong partnerships with retail banking operations teams, ensuring renovations align with business objectives

  • Manage vendor relationships and performance to ensure compliance with brand standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations

  • Coordinate with security, compliance, and operational teams to maintain banking center functionality during construction

  • Maintain strong working relationships that position you as a positive reference for future business proposals

Project Delivery & Execution:

  • Oversee team's end-to-end execution of interior renovations (lobbies, teller lines, offices, customer-facing areas as well as back of house) and exterior improvements (facades, signage, entrances, parking areas)

  • Direct ATM installation, relocation, and upgrade projects, coordinating with technology and operations teams

  • Provide strategic oversight ensuring timely delivery of project milestones while maintaining quality standards

  • Establish, monitor and refine best practices specific to retail financial center renovations, including phasing strategies and customer impact mitigation

  • Make informed decisions in conjunction with best practices and ongoing dialogue with management on operational procedures, phasing approaches, and schedule modifications that impact project delivery

  • Lead RFP development, bid evaluation and contract negotiations with specialized vendors familiar with occupied retail banking environments

  • Oversee procurement and management of bidding process for all project-related resources (A&E, general contractors)

  • Review investment calculation sheets and budget worksheet calculations and direct PMs for any needed corrections to achieve OT KPI

  • Monitor bid tabulations, purchase orders, and change order proposals

  • Ensure quality control standards for construction are met by reviewing data and training and supporting PM's (cost, timing, design standards, and specifications)

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to operational disruption, fee exposure, regulatory compliance, and brand reputation

  • Balance renovation objectives with the imperative to maintain banking operations, ATM availability, and positive customer experience against the client's capital planning limitations

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable General Service Agreement requirements

Performance Management & KPIs:

  • Manage retail project team scorecard to green status

  • Deliver exceeding scores on all contract KPIs and Price of Admission (POA) metrics

  • Promote high-performance culture by creating opportunities for involvement in activities including peer reviews, technology adoption and idea sharing

  • Create an environment where direct reports are engaged, understand, and are committed to both corporate and client goals

  • Ensure team is fully aligned and exceeds cascaded client targets and account business plan

  • Proactively identify opportunities for improving processes and deliverables

Budget Management & Financial Oversight:

  • Proactively manage and ensure team meets or comes under target for proforma expenses

  • Manage project capital and expense plan assigned to the JLL project team

  • Manage the provision of data on program budget and capital spend to ensure compliance with construction in progress aging

  • Ensure all project funding and approvals processes and procedures are followed and documented.

  • Monitor expense reporting to client and management

  • Provide accurate data to support resource models and align project manager skill sets with work assignments

Strategic Oversight & Innovation:

  • Recommend process improvements and innovative approaches that enhance project efficiency and client satisfaction

  • Establish and track execution of standards of excellence for retail banking renovations that can be scaled across the portfolio

  • Monitor emerging trends in retail banking design and construction delivery methods

  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery with your team while managing costs and timelines effectively

  • Demonstrate the ability to create a solution-oriented environment whereby the team is consistently seeking to identify leading-edge project management practices

  • Champion all new and existing programs initiated nationally

  • Take ownership of components of the business plan and develop objectives/desired results

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Real Estate, Business, or related field preferred

  • Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience leading complex renovation projects within occupied retail or commercial environments

  • Proven track record managing interior and exterior renovations with strong understanding of retail banking operations preferred

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams of project management professionals

  • Experience in a client-focused, results/metrics-driven organization

  • Six Sigma / PMP / Agile Scrum process improvement experience preferred

  • Must have experience leading high-performing teams both in local offices and remote locations

Technical Expertise:

  • Comprehensive understanding of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings

  • Strong knowledge of building systems, retail space components, and infrastructure specific to financial center environments

  • Experience with ATM installation, technology integration, and coordination with specialized vendors preferred

  • Expertise in phasing occupied renovations to minimize operational disruption

  • Working knowledge of ADA compliance, building codes, and regulatory requirements affecting financial institutions

  • Solid understanding of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and scheduling as applied to construction project management

  • Professional designations such as LEED and PMP preferred

Leadership & Management Skills:

  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate multiple project managers at various experience levels

  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment on complex issues

  • Track record of attracting and retaining top talent while building cohesive, high-performing teams

  • Expertise in negotiation and contract management with diverse vendor and contractor relationships

  • Ability to diversify and develop workforce by ensuring a diverse slate of candidates are considered for all open positions

  • Experience ensuring compliance with HR policies and talent practices

Communication & Relationship Building:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels via 1:1 and group interactions, PowerPoint presentations, and email

  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining strong client relationships and partnerships

  • Ability to collaborate across functions including operations, technology, facilities, and compliance teams

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a client-service orientation

Tools & Methodologies:

  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office applications and MS Project (or equivalent project management software)

  • Solid understanding of project management methodologies, procedures, and industry best practices

  • Experience with construction management platforms and document control systems
