Summary Job Description: The Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer (VP/CNO) has the authority and responsibility for the implementation of standards of nursing practice and the implementation of nursing care according to those standards. The VP/CNO or designee reviews and approves nursing policies and procedures and designs systems for the delivery of patient care including provision of adequate staffing. The VP/CNO collaboratively works with members of the governing body, medical staff, nursing staff and other hospital leaders in planning, promoting, and conducting patient focused and nurse sensitive performance-improvement activities in support of the hospital initiatives. The VP/CNO participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information systems in support of patient care needs. The VP/CNO has full accountability and responsibility regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of operational and capital budgets for nursing. The VP/CNO supports the efficient utilization of clinical resources while meeting expectations for quality and safe patient care delivery. Ultimately, the VP/CNO is an exemplar for promoting a positive practice environment - honoring nursing as a distinct discipline and supporting an environment focused on healing and wellness.
