POSITION SUMMARY: KEMRON Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking dependable Construction Laborers for current and upcoming environmental remediation, heavy construction, and highway construction projects. Frequent overnight and out-of-state travel is required for projects throughout TN, KY, NC, SC, VA, WV, TX, and other locations based on project needs. Project locations, schedules, durations, and start dates will vary.The Construction Laborer performs physically demanding work and assists project personnel with the safe and efficient completion of onsite construction and environmental remediation activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
- Load and unload trucks, tools, equipment, and construction materials.
- Move, organize, stack, and store materials and supplies.
- Excavate, fill, brace, and compact trenches and ditches.
- Dig, fill, tamp, and level earth using hand tools and power equipment.
- Assist with the erection and dismantling of scaffolding.
- Remove and properly dispose of debris, rubble, refuse, and salvageable materials.
- Clear vegetation, brush, culverts, drainage areas, and project work zones.
- Operate hand tools and small power equipment.
- Assist equipment operators, truck drivers, foremen, superintendents, and other project personnel.
- Assist with asphalt placement, patching, excavation, and backfilling as required.
- Maintain a clean and orderly job site.
- Pick up and secure tools, equipment, and materials at the end of each workday.
- Follow project-specific procedures, work plans, safety plans, and instructions.
- Participate in job orientations, training sessions, daily safety meetings, and toolbox talks.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, injuries, or other concerns to project supervision.
- Follow all KEMRON, client, and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other construction and environmental remediation duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Any combination of training, skills, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform construction labor duties.
- Willingness and ability to perform strenuous physical work for extended periods.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, vehicles, excavation areas, and active construction operations.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, construction materials, and job-site safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a field team.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work safely and respectfully with coworkers, subcontractors, clients, and other project personnel.
- Ability to complete required project-specific training, medical evaluations, and safety requirements.
- Previous heavy construction, highway construction, environmental remediation, excavation, or general labor experience preferred.
- Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.
- Current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher certification preferred.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions associated with heavy equipment and construction operations preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly work outdoors in rain, extreme heat, cold, humidity, dust, mud, and other adverse field conditions.
- Work shifts that may range from 8 to 12 hours depending on project requirements.
- Remain alert and aware of surrounding equipment, vehicles, personnel, and changing site conditions.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
- Walk safely over uneven, unstable, muddy, or sloped terrain.
- Frequently lift and move lighter materials and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, equipment, and controls.
- Work around moving vehicles, mechanical equipment, loud noise, vibration, asphalt, dust, and potentially hazardous materials.
- Wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods.
- Perform physically demanding tasks safely with limited supervision.
- Remain in a stationary position, including standing or sitting, for prolonged periods when required.
- Work closely and safely with other employees and site personnel without continuous supervision.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent overnight and out-of-state travel is required.
- Projects may be located throughout TN, KY, NC, SC, VA, WV, TX, and other locations based on project needs.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record meeting KEMRON vehicle insurance requirements, when required.
- Must pass required medical monitoring and HAZWOPER physical examinations.
- Must pass medical clearance and fit testing for respiratory protection when required by the project.
- Must read, understand, and acknowledge KEMRON and project-specific Health and Safety Plans.
- Must comply with KEMRON standard operating procedures and all project-specific safety requirements.
