Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz is looking for a post-doctoral fellow to join our lab (diaslab.org). The fellow will be responsible for driving an independent project studying neurodegeneration using human cells and tissues. Model systems and techniques include using post-mortem brain tissue and human cell lines, as well as long read and single cell sequencing. Experience and/or comfort with these paradigms are a critical component of this role. The goal of the research project broadly is to better understand essential mechanisms underlying the disorder Fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome, a neurodegenerative disorder associated with cognitive decline, psychiatric co-morbidities, and tremor and ataxia. Our lab affords a collaborative mind-set and opportunities for professional development and growth for those with a variety of career aspirations. Former and current lab members have been highly successful in publishing, obtaining fellowships, and pursuing long-term professional goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing testable hypotheses and conducting molecular biology experiments and analyses including but not limited to high molecular weight DNA extraction & sequencing, RNA expression/studies, single-cell -omics experiments, in situ studies, and cell culture work
  • Analyzing sequencing data including long read DNA sequencing, bulk RNA-seq, and single-nucleus RNA/ATAC using R, python, command line interface and high-performance computing clusters
  • Thorough documentation and communication of experiments and findings with lab notebook, appropriate version control
  • Presentations expected at lab meetings, and at regional and national conferences
  • Supervision of more junior laboratory members

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

* PhD in Neuroscience, Human Genetics, Developmental Neurobiology, Molecular Biology or related field

* One (1) year experience working with post-mortem brain tissue or equivalent (other primary human tissue/cell work, and/or using BSL2 or greater precautions)

* One (1) year experience with hIPSC-derived cell culture or equivalent (human lines such as fibroblasts, lymphoblasts) and cell culture sterile technique

Condition of Employment:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year experience with R, python, or equivalent analysis of sequencing data such as long-read or single-cell RNA and DNA methods

  • Two to five (2-5) years of experience working with post-mortem brain tissue or equivalent (other primary human tissue/cell work, and/or using BSL2 or greater precautions)

  • Two to five (2-5) years of experience with hIPSC-derived cell culture or equivalent (human lines such as fibroblasts, lymphoblasts) and cell culture sterile technique

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Working knowledge of common molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, IHC, protein extraction and assessment, sterile cell culture, cloning, etc

* Ability to clearly document experiments and analyses

* Ability to work collaboratively & professionally

* Ability to independently trouble-shoot experiments and learn new techniques

* Demonstrated productivity with respect to:

o prior publications

o competitive prior and/or current funding/travel awards/fellowships

o oral presentation at regional and national levels

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

0 years of experience: $63,480 - $66,700

1 year of experience: $63,900 - $67,200

2 years of experience: $64,380 - $67,800

3 years of experience: $66,948 - $70,500

4 years of experience: $69,180 - $72,800

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
