JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Orthopaedic Institute Practice Supervisor and Manager, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the clinical staff and the physician leadership, the Hospital Assistant II assists in the delivery of care to patients in an ambulatory multi-specialty group practice. Work includes a variety of personal care and nursing procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the primary and specialty care services provided to patients within the practice. S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center. Exemplary customer service is essential.

Clinical
Performs routine clinical functions and documents in patient chart, including but not limited to vital signs, height, weight, pain screening and documentation of chief complaints and current medications. Assists patients in preparation for exam and/or procedures. Rooming of patients. Prepare room for exam, i.e. pulling up electronic medical records and x-ray studies. Performs medication reconciliation in prep for provider. Performs cast application and removal. Transports patients as directed. Monitors patient flow in and out of the clinic. Updated tracking board and Expeditor light system (OI). Obtains specimens and performs simple laboratory procedures as directed. Performs clinical activities in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures that x-ray films are available for each patient's visit. Assist with the instruction of crutches, canes, and walker ambulation. Documents all patient care activities, results, patient related communication and enter this information into the medical record as appropriate. Checks medications supplies for expiration on a monthly basis; discards when expired.
Complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, administrative and clinical practice. Complies with activities mandated by JCAHO/Title 22. Completion of annual competency testing.
