Production Cell Leader - 1st Shift

In a leadership capacity, The Production Cell
Leader will provide the support necessary to coordinate the movement of work
orders through the manufacturing value streams. They are responsible for ensuring
that the value stream is operating according to the daily operation plan set
forth by the dispatch list from Baan and the Value Stream Manager. This
position requires a person with strong leadership skills who is self-motivated
and has a positive, energizing effect on others. This person will be a role
model for safety, quality, and 6S, and for taking ownership of delivering
results. This position encompasses both production control and team leader responsibilities,
at times contributing to actually manufacturing product.

Our Facility in Coxsackie, NY manufactures large, complex contoured structural components and assemblies for aerospace and other applications. Our integrated processes include stretch-forming, thermal-forming, chemical processing, precision fabrication, machining, finishing processes, and integration of components into subassemblies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitors employees' daily quality, productivity, and efficiency, and provides assistance to improve overall performance.
  • Reports status of jobs during tier walks, morning meetings, or as needed.
  • Monitors and updates Tier 1 and Tier 2 boards across the value stream.
  • Interfaces with all other support functions on movement of work in and out of the value stream, as well as quality and tooling issues.
  • Advises Value Stream Manager/Supervisor of any problems meeting production goals.
  • Assigns necessary personnel to complete production requirements.
  • Asseses practices, processes, and equipment to recommend changes for increasing the value streams overall performance.
  • Monitors the progress of the daily care and upkeep of equipment and tools used in the work center.
  • Assists in the training of new employees and monitor new employees' progress through the training process.
  • Promotes employee involvement in improvement programs and support of Company goals.
  • Confirms and orders required materials and supplies to complete assigned tasks.
  • Utilizes BAAN reporting sessions to monitor value stream demand and performance.
  • Offers options that assist in optimizing value stream performance.
  • Maintains value stream key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Works with the Value Stream Supervisor/Manager to develop and implement annual training plans.
  • Represents and advocates for the Company by following and enforcing written policies.
  • Works to identify and match employee potentials to job opportunities where they may excel in order to sustain profitable growth.
  • Coaches and mentors employees.
  • Tracks employee performance over the evaluation period in order to provide substantive input into the annual evaluation documentation.
  • Acts as the Value Stream Manager/Supervisor in the event they are absent.
  • Develops and implements countermeasures and action items to effectively address value stream performance issues.
  • May plan, assign, direct work, and assess performance for other value stream employees.
  • Works closely with operators to verify correct jobs are being performed.
  • Reviews Daily Dispatch List for errors and accuracy against jobs in progress.
  • Ensures all materials, blueprints, tools, and NC programs are available to the value stream at the start of each new job.
  • Maintains production flow and established TAKT times.
  • Identifies production delays in order to minimize the overall manufacturing cycle.
  • Monitors all Material Review Request activities within assigned work area.
  • Coordinates with other Team Leaders on all activity within assigned work area to ensure accuracy of the Daily Dispatch List.
  • Coordinates with previous or next work area support functions to ensure movement of the Work Orders as the jobs are completed. This also includes any transportation required to move the product to the next area.
  • Collects work orders as required for planning changes per written procedures.
  • Works with Program and Value Stream Managers to manage customer expectations and provide accurate delivery commitments.
  • Understands and interrogates BAAN item data and reporting sessions to manage the effectiveness of the MRP system as required.
  • Troubleshoots P.O. entry versus BAAN schedule.
  • Serves as the BAAN Subject Matter Expert for the department.
  • Directly interfaces with Customers.
  • Manages complex work statements or complex customer requirements.
  • Develops and manages metrics for department.
  • Serves as an Internal Auditor.
  • Maintains cycle, flow, and TAKT times in the value streams and performs actual hands-on manufacturing of required products.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or certificate in a related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of MS Word, Excel, Windows, and experience with integrated MRP systems is required.
  • Good organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications, interpret drawings, and documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Pay Range: $22.00-29.00
