Career Services:

Career Services (CS) provides comprehensive career services and programs to assist a diverse student population in developing, evaluating, and effectively initiating and implementing career, education, and employment decisions and plans through collaborative internal partnerships with UCF administrators, faculty, and staff, as well as effective external partnerships with key employers.

The Opportunity:

The Student Career Counselor I develops, implements, facilitates, and evaluates various programs focused on assisting students in successfully integrating into the University environment. The Counselor focuses on students' career development by working with students, alumni, and/or potential employers. The Counselor also provides counseling to students, develops programs and activities to assist students with career development.

Responsibilities:

Career Counseling & Student Advising:


  • Provide individualized and group career counseling sessions to assist students in clarifying academic and professional goals.

  • Guide students through structured career assessments to evaluate interests, personality, skills, and values, and connect results to appropriate academic programs and career pathways.

  • Support students in validating program choices and making informed decisions regarding major selection and career direction.

  • Develop customized career action plans that outline short- and long-term goals, including academic milestones, experiential learning, and job readiness activities.


Career Readiness & Professional Development:


  • Coach students on career search strategies, including resume development, cover letter writing, LinkedIn profile optimization, and personal branding.

  • Prepare students for employment opportunities through interview coaching, mock interviews, and job search guidance.

  • Provide targeted advising on career pathways, internship opportunities, and post-graduation employment strategies.


Workshops, Programs & Outreach:


  • Design, develop, and deliver workshops and presentations on career development topics such as interviewing techniques, networking strategies, and career exploration.

  • Conduct outreach presentations to student groups, academic programs, and campus partners to promote career services and resources.

  • Participate in and support career expos, employer engagement events, and large-scale career programming initiatives.


Program Management & Resource Development:


  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate career development programs, including workshops, events, and targeted initiatives for specific student populations.

  • Manage logistics, marketing, and execution of career-related programming to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Develop and maintain career-related resources, tools, and materials to support student success.


Partnerships & Employer Engagement:


  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, employers, and external partners to enhance career opportunities for students.

  • Serve as a liaison to academic programs, student organizations, and campus departments to embed career development into the student experience.

  • Support networking initiatives and employer outreach efforts that connect students to professional opportunities.


Assessment & Student Support Services:


  • Administer and interpret career assessment instruments (e.g., personality, interest, and skills inventories) and communicate results effectively to students.

  • Deliver targeted career services to a large and diverse student population, ensuring equitable access and support.

  • Track student progress and outcomes, using data to inform advising strategies and program improvements.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's and 2+ years of relevant experience or Masters degree and 0+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, counselor education, psychology or other appropriate area from an accredited institution and one year of related experience.

  • Previous experience with career services
