THE POSITION

As a Welder for the Department of Transportation in the York County Maintenance Organization, you will play a key part in maintaining vital equipment and structures. You will use your welding skills to support safe travel and strengthen construction and repair efforts. This position provides steady, hands-on work that keeps you involved in meaningful projects. You will help create safe conditions for both workers and the public.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the maintenance and repair of equipment, structures, and metal components used across transportation operations. You will play an important role in keeping facilities and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for use. As a Welder, you will perform the following duties:

  • Welding Repairs: Perform welding, brazing, and metal cutting on various metals for equipment and structural needs
  • Fabrication Work: Create and modify parts, frames, and components using multiple welding methods
  • Equipment Maintenance: Diagnose problems, repair equipment, and support facility improvements
  • Safety Practices: Follow safety rules, use protective gear, and report hazards to maintain safe work areas
  • Emergency Response: Respond to call outs and assist during urgent maintenance situations
  • Material Management: Maintain an inventory of steel and aluminum needed for repair and fabrication tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Mandatory or unscheduled overtime may be required based on operational and seasonal needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
