A Communication Specialist III position is available within DCRI's Corporate Communications team, which is a small, cross-trained team that works together closely on bolstering DCRI's standing as the world's leading academic clinical research organization. Reporting to the Marketing Communications Manager, Communication Specialist II is a full-time generalist with a focus on digital marketing as well as project management.

This new team member will play an important role in managing DCRI's external website (dcri.org) and intranet (Pulse), as well as creating graphics for use across channels. Additionally, the person in this role will be responsible for researching DCRI's participation in scientific conferences throughout the year and play an important project management role in developing collateral for conferences at which the DCRI is an exhibitor. DCRI's Corporate Communications team functions as an editorial council, and the person will have the opportunity to participate in regular discussions to make decisions about enterprise content strategy and development. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills, general experience editing pages within a content management system (CMS), proficiency creating graphics for a variety of channels, and a general understanding of digital marketing.

NOTE: This position may have an opportunity to work remotely. All Duke University and Duke Health remote workers must reside in one of the following states or districts: Arizona; California; Florida; Georgia; Hawaii; Illinois; Maryland; Massachusetts; Montana; New Jersey; New York; North Carolina; Pennsylvania; South Carolina; Tennessee; Texas; Virginia or Washington, DC., Washington (State), Connecticut, Indiana, Michigan, Maine, Ohio, New Hampshire, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oregon, Iowa, Missouri, Delaware, and Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities:

* Publish content on external website (dcri.org) and intranet (Pulse) using content management systems (Drupal and SharePoint, respectively). Design new pages and update existing pages. Participate in the migration of dcri.org from WordPress to Drupal 8 in the spring of 2022.

* Create graphics for social media, external websites, and intranet.

* Determine requirements for instructional audiovisual media and coordinate production of slide series, films, videotapes and other media materials for use

* Works both independently and collaborative internal Shared Services department, Production Designers and Marketing Managers on a wide mix of creative initiatives. Responsibilities include interpreting creative briefs, adhering to brand standards and requirements, collaborative design-thinking, and generating exciting creative ideas that align with the creative lead's vision, marketing strategies, and objectives. A high degree of refinement, accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency is paramount.

* Manage calendar of DCRI's scientific conferences, researching Duke-related presentations at each show and participating in the development of a social media content strategy.

* For scientific conferences at which DCRI has an exhibit booth, coordinate the marketing collateral needed for the booth by project managing stakeholders in DCRI's editorial, graphics, digital services, and production teams.

* Prepares layouts, designs, artwork and formats for use in publication and /or exhibition design; Layout and scale photos, marking them for proper screen values for print reproduction.

* Designs, lays out, and produces artwork such as graphs, maps, charts, posters, signs and report covers.

* Organizes copy flow and maintains database/bibliographic/archival retrieval system of all references used in creation of published materials.

* Contribute to editorial planning by suggesting content ideas, target channels and audiences, and appropriate project timelines.

* Compile weekly internal newsletter in MS Outlook.

* Create quarterly external-facing newsletters using Constant Contact.

* Occasionally develop content for DCRI-owned external and internal channels, including infographics, flyers, PowerPoint slides, invitations, video or podcast scripts, news articles, and announcements.

* Serve as backup manager of DCRI's social media channels (Twitter and LinkedIn).

* Contribute to discussions about channel performance metrics and make recommendations for improvement.

* Develop and maintain working relationships with DCRI's graphics, digital services, and production teams; collaborate with these teams to develop infographics, slides, and other materials. * Assist in the shooting and production of video and audio projects.

* Develop a broad knowledge of research conducted at the DCRI as well as faculty expertise and key offerings. Other Duties Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a background in or interest in learning complex, scientific topics.

* Experience with content management systems, ideally Drupal and/or SharePoint, is required. We will accept experience with WordPress-as long as there is an eagerness to learn Drupal. Knowledge of HTML/CSS is a plus.

* Proficiency with basic graphic design programs (e.g., Canva); experience with more complex editing programs (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Lightroom) is a plus.

* Strong project management skills, with experience bringing small to medium-sized projects to completion independently.

* Understanding digital content strategy, content marketing, and/or digital measurement metrics; experience with Google Analytics and/or SEO is a plus.

* Well-versed in MS Office applications, especially Word and PowerPoint.

* Experience with Constant Contact or another email marketing platform is a plus.

* Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple deadlines simultaneously.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Openness to giving and receiving constructive feedback.

* Collaborative spirit with an ability to strategize, create, and edit materials in a diplomatic manner with colleagues of all levels.

* Proficiency with video and/or audio editing is a plus. Education and Experience bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, graphic design, business administration, life sciences, or related discipline. At least five years of communications experience, whether corporate communications, marketing, or journalism; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Location The DCRI follows Duke's remote work guidelines and allows fully remote workers in the 18 approved states/districts outside of North Carolina. For workers who reside within commuting distance of Durham, NC, the DCRI supports a flexible work environment in which the employee and their manager complete a telecommuting work arrangement that is mutually beneficial.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $62,694.00 to USD $107,633.00.
