As a PC Authorization Coordinator, you will work closely with administrative, clinical, and management teams to support practice operations and customer service. Your primary responsibility is to secure financial clearance, manage authorizations, and provide support for billing functions. You will work independently to resolve billing issues and ensure payor reimbursement. This role requires an advanced understanding of healthcare terminology, processes, and workflow, as well as excellent people skills and communication abilities.
  • Secure financial clearance for patients, providers, and the health system.
  • Manage and prioritize authorization work queues, including new and follow-up patient authorizations.
  • Coordinate surgical authorizations, capture appropriate codes, and interact with clinical staff.
  • Work with complex revenue cycle processes, including securing authorizations, communicating policies, and analyzing denial reports.
  • Provide excellent customer service, prioritize urgent authorizations, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Act as a liaison with practices and providers, expediting services and coordinating complex patient care.
  • Perform APEX-specific functions, manage work queues, and document call information.
  • Complete authorizations for multiple departments, scan documents, and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in team building, attend training, and actively contribute to performance improvement projects.
  • Comply with Medical Center policies, infection control procedures, and Joint Commission mandates.
  • High School graduate or equivalent with 4 years of related experience, or a college degree with 6 months of experience.
  • Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding and Office-type software proficiency.
  • Ability to analyze situations, work independently, and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both over the phone and in person.
  • Proven ability to deal with a diverse range of individuals and patients.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with strong writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical practice terminology and administrative coordination.
  • Prior experience in healthcare, appointment scheduling, or patient financial services is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian) is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with EPIC is an asset.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
