Job Summary: The Health Center Assistant Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting the effective operations of the health center and the delivery of equitable, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care. Reporting to and in partnership with the Senior Health Center Manager, the Assistant Manager directly supervises staff and is responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and performance management while ensuring daily operations aligning with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and Planned Parenthood's patient-centered care model. Serving as a visible, on-site leader, the Health Center Assistant Manager provides hands-on operational support, reinforces accountability, models trauma-informed and inclusive leadership, exercises independent judgement and managerial authority, and assumes full operational responsibility in the Senior Health Center Manager's absence. Health Center Assistant Managers are advocates in implementing our mission "Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all." They may perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in business, human services, public health, nursing related area, or 2 years equivalent experience
- 2+ years of direct people management and/or leadership experience.
- Experience working with confidential information and regulated environments.
- Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed within Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota
- Must have the ability to work flexible hours that match the clinic hours, which may include evenings and weekends
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities: LEADERSHIP & CULTURE
- Directly supervise assigned health center staff, fostering a high performing, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
- Model ethical leadership, integrity, and excellent customer service while supporting staff through operational and organizational change.
- Reinforce a patient centered care environment that prioritizes dignity, responsiveness, and equity.
- Serve as a consistent onsite leader and escalation point for staff questions, concerns, and service recovery needs.
OPERATIONS & COMPLIANCE
- Support daily health center operations to meet goals related to efficiency, productivity, patient satisfaction, quality measures, and revenue.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards (HIPAA, CLIA, OSHA) and internal policies, procedures, and medical standards.
- Monitor systems and workflows to identify and address barriers to staff performance and patient experience.
- Assist with inventory oversight, ordering, and supply management to ensure operational readiness and cost effective use of resources.
STAFF SUPERVISION & DEVELOPMENT
- Hire, train, coach, and supervise assigned health center staff in partnership with the Senior Health Center Manager.
- Conduct ongoing performance management, including feedback, documentation, and corrective action, in collaboration with the Senior Health Center Manager and Human Resources.
- Support onboarding, ongoing training, and professional development to ensure staff competency and engagement.
- Facilitate or support regular team meetings and ensure staff are informed of policy updates and procedural changes.
OPERATIONAL & FINANCIAL SUPPORT
- Assist the Senior Health Center Manager with analyzing performance data, identifying trends, and implementing process improvements to meet operational and financial goals.
- Support execution of health center plans related to productivity, patient access, and service delivery.
- Contribute to responsible stewardship of resources through monitoring of expenses, supplies, and operational practices.
CLINIC SUPPORT & PATIENT EXPERIENCE
- Maintain clinic flow and provide hands-on operational support as needed, including non-licensed tasks such as front desk coverage, patient rounding, stocking, and room preparation.
- Ensure the physical environment meets safety, security, and brand standards.
- Support advancement of all medical services offered, including family planning, abortion care, vasectomies, mental health services, and gender affirming care.
COLLABORATION & MISSION ALIGNMENT
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to align health center operations with organizational goals.
- Assume full operational responsibility for the health center in the Senior Health Center Manager's absence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the mission and operations of PPNCS.
Immunization Requirements:
- Hepatitis B vaccination records and titers
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination records or proof of immunization
- Chicken Pox vaccination records or proof of immunization
- Tetanus shot documentation
- Tuberculosis PPD Skin Test that is no older than 12 months
