Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Environment of Environmental Sciences and Engineering ( ESE) focuses on the interface between people and the environment with interdisciplinary programs in air quality, atmospheric processes, human exposure and health effects, and sustainable water resources, drawn from faculty expertise In the physical and life sciences engineering and policy. The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering ( ESE) is an academic and research department located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and has 24 faculty, 29 joint and adjunct faculty, 14 administrative staff members, and 7 research staff members. It has about 120 graduate students. The mission of the Gillings School of Global Public Health is to improve public health, promote individual well-being, and eliminate health disparities across North Carolina and around the world.
Position Summary
The Environmental Justice Action Research Clinic (EJ Clinic) provides technical assistance to residents and organizations aiming to improve the environmental quality and public health within their communities. Through applied research and technical expertise, faculty and student researchers collaborate with partners from impacted communities on various activities, including engaging interested parties to assess needs and outline strategic action, reviewing and translating technical documents, conducting baseline health assessments, assessing environmental quality, proposing mitigation strategies and advocating for behavioral, programmatic and policy level changes to reduce/prevent hazards exposure. The Clinic is committed to an anti-racist praxis and aims to apply critical, emancipatory approaches to their work.
The EJ Clinic is currently seeking an Program Manager. The Program Manager will support the EJ Clinic Director on the following activities:

* Maintain correspondence with community partners to ensure partnership goals are being met
* Lead at least 1 community-driven applied research endeavor
* Support writing grants, manuscripts, reports, public comments, letters and media content
* Prepare and deliver presentations for public, university and community meetings and conferences
* Identify interested parties for key initiatives and facilitate partnership development
* Support strategic planning and visioning for the future direction of the EJ Clinic
* Coordinate activities of graduate and hourly students working with the EJ Clinic
* Develop and implement evaluation tools to help the EJ Clinic assess their reach, effectiveness
and impact
* Engage with faculty partners and advisory board members
* Support some administrative activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
Coursework in Public Health, Environmental Health or a related field.
Experience in related field.
