General Job Description Operations Manager - IES Residential, Inc. Plumbing Division Startup Build Something from the Ground Up with the Support of a National Leader IES Residential, Inc. is one of the nation's largest residential mechanical contractors, providing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC installation services to national and regional homebuilders across multiple states. Founded as an electrical contractor, IES has grown into a full-service mechanical trade company with operations across the country, supporting residential construction at scale. Our Charlotte operation is an established electrical division that is now adding plumbing. This position offers a unique ground-floor opportunity to help launch and grow a residential plumbing operation while leveraging the resources, support, and infrastructure of a national organization. The Opportunity IES Residential is adding plumbing to our existing Charlotte electrical division and is seeking a hands-on Operations Manager with Residential New Construction (RNC) experience to support the launch and growth of the business. This role works directly alongside the Division Manager and is supported by IES's national teams, including centralized estimating, plumbing design, procurement, and administrative resources. You will not be standing up the operation alone. We are looking for an experienced residential new construction plumbing professional who can serve as the trade subject matter expert in the Charlotte market-someone who understands production plumbing, can build and lead a team, establish operational standards, and drive quality and performance as the division grows. What You'll Do Division Startup Support Support the Division Manager in adding plumbing to the existing Charlotte operation, including warehouse organization, dispatch logistics, and development of operational workflows Coordinate with the IES national procurement team to establish supplier relationships, material pricing, and kitting and delivery models for the Charlotte market Research North Carolina plumbing permitting requirements by municipality and collaborate with the central administrative team to establish compliant permitting workflows before neighborhood starts Assist in building scalable systems and processes that support long-term division growth Field Operations Hire, onboard, train, and supervise plumbing crews performing residential new construction installations Lead crews through underground, rough-in, and trim phases of construction Establish production expectations, quality standards, and installation best practices from the first project onward Schedule field crews to meet builder production requirements and manage daily dispatch and jobsite coordination Conduct first-install quality reviews on new floor plans and validate Bills of Material (BOMs) against design documents Manage warranty service and callback activity while identifying recurring issues by floor plan, product line, or installation process Ensure field personnel maintain all required North Carolina installer and supervisor licensing requirements Performance & Cost Management Monitor labor and material performance metrics in coordination with the Division Manager Identify operational variances and implement corrective actions at the crew and supplier level Audit BOMs to reduce waste, improve accuracy, identify substitutions, and optimize material usage Utilize company job management and field operations technology platforms for scheduling, tracking, and documentation Provide regular operational reporting to division and national leadership teams Minimum Education None Minimum Years of Experience 4-6 Specific Qualifications What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Residential New Construction (RNC) plumbing experience required Experience supporting production homebuilders in a high-volume residential environment Proven leadership experience managing plumbing crews, including hiring, scheduling, training, and quality control Strong knowledge of: PEX water distribution systems PVC drain, waste, and vent systems Underground plumbing installation Rough-in and fixture trim operations Ability to thrive in a startup or high-growth environment Familiarity with North Carolina plumbing licensing requirements or willingness to learn and implement them We value proven Residential New Construction plumbing experience above formal education. Candidates who have successfully led crews, managed production schedules, maintained quality standards, and delivered results in a high-volume homebuilding environment are strongly encouraged to apply. Preferred Qualifications Experience working within a structured production plumbing operation serving high-volume residential builders Experience utilizing job management, scheduling, or field operations software platforms North Carolina Plumbing Contractor or Supervisor License, or the ability to obtain one Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum of 5 years of Residential New Construction plumbing experience required Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory, foreman, lead installer, or crew leadership role Valid North Carolina driver's license and clean record required Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background screening Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred but not required Hands-on Residential New Construction field experience is the primary qualification for this role Working Environment & Physical Requirements Position based in the Charlotte, North Carolina metropolitan area, with regular travel between jobsites, warehouses, supplier locations, and company facilities Combination of office, warehouse, and active residential construction jobsite environments Ability to safely navigate construction sites, including uneven terrain, mud, excavations, stairs, ladders, crawlspaces, attics, and partially completed structures Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and move throughout jobsites for extended periods while conducting inspections, quality reviews, and crew oversight Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, humidity, and other environmental conditions common to residential construction Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license with a clean driving record Ability to use computers, tablets, smartphones, and company technology platforms for scheduling, reporting, communication, and field documentation Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all company and jobsite safety requirements Occasional extended hours may be required during startup activities and periods of high production volume Why Join IES Residential?
