Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Political Science Department is staffed by 10 full-time faculty and approximately 12 part-time instructors. It offers a comprehensive undergraduate program for approximately 300 political science majors. The department also serves students across the University by teaching courses in the general education curriculum. At the graduate level, the department offers a nationally accredited Master in Public Affairs ( MPA) degree and two certificate programs-one in Nonprofit Management and one in Urban and Economic Development. The graduate program enrolls approximately 100 students each year, including typically 55-60 MPA students.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Political Science Department. This includes responsibility for personnel and financial management, course scheduling, event planning, generation of reports, maintaining records for graduate admissions and MPA student progress, and supervision of student workers as well as assisting faculty in grant administration, travel procedures, and reimbursement.
Minimum Qualifications
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a university setting; prior budget, accounting and purchasing experience.
