The Product Portfolio Management Leader for Generics Programs & Products shapes a product-focused portfolio strategy and translates market and customer insights into forward-looking lifecycle decisions for existing products and new product launches. Working in close partnership with stakeholders across the enterprise, this leader ensures portfolio actions align with Generics and enterprise priorities and drive long-term value.

Reporting to the VP, Generics Programs & Products, this role leads the Product Portfolio Management organization through a Sr. Manager of Campaigns and a Category Management function. The team brings deep therapeutic expertise, portfolio-optimization capabilities, training development, and robust product P&L management to identify and execute portfolio-maximization opportunities across current products and new product launches.

The leader partners extensively across a highly matrixed organization, including Segment Leaders; Reporting; Insights & Analytics; Pricing Insights & Intelligence; and market-facing teams. Upstream, the role works with ClarusONE, Masters, NorthStar, and BSMR to evaluate, align, and consult on profitable, scalable portfolio decisions that drive enterprise growth. Success requires strong financial and business acumen, clear portfolio vision, and exceptional communication and influencing skills.

As a strategic member of the leadership team, this role is also responsible for establishing and strengthening core product portfolio management capabilities that enable effective execution of the Generics product strategy across all segments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product Portfolio Management team in developing and advancing a multi-year, end-to-end product and portfolio strategy and launch timeline across all segments, aligned to the Generics roadmap and enterprise priorities.

  • Drive portfolio planning and prioritization, shape product mix and pricing posture, and align strategic customer focus areas while escalating high-impact financial insights to ensure sustained enterprise value and long-term growth.

  • Deliver team outcomes through defined SLAs and success metrics.

  • Represent Generics Programs & Products in leadership forums and partner with senior and executive stakeholders (e.g., Segment Leaders; Reporting; Insights & Analytics; Pricing Insights & Intelligence; and market-facing teams) to shape and influence portfolio decisions.

  • Lead and develop a team of direct reports (including a Sr. Manager and Category Management function) in a fast-paced Generics Programs & Products environment; provide mentorship, coaching, and career development while adapting to evolving business needs.

  • Communicate the Generics Programs & Products vision and translate it into a functional strategy for the Product Portfolio Management team.

  • Translate customer needs, market insights, competitive intelligence, and field feedback into actionable product requirements and strategic roadmaps.

  • Oversee the full product lifecycle-from concept and incubation through launch, scale, and end-of-life-ensuring cohesive execution and enterprise alignment.

  • Partner with key stakeholders (including Reporting, Insights & Analytics, and FP&A) to validate roadmap feasibility, leverage insights for data-driven decisions, and budget, forecast, and track financial performance (e.g., NPL).

  • Guide development of executive communications, messaging, and insights for each BU/segment related to product and portfolio performance (e.g., sales, compliance, trends, savings, opportunities, and risks).

  • Guide development of conversion playbooks (including identifying NPL conversion opportunities, training strategy, and customer knowledge) to maximize launch performance and lifecycle optimization, improve margins, and drive financial growth.

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required (Business, Engineering, Marketing, or related field preferred)

  • MBA or advanced degree in Business, Finance, Product Strategy, or related is strongly preferred

Critical Skills

  • 13+ years of relevant experience, including systems and product portfolio management (existing products and NPL), financial and P&L management; plus 6+ years of diversified business and people leadership (or equivalent experience). Fortune 100 experience preferred.

  • Industry experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or large-scale B2B pricing environments is a plus

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep, enterprise-level expertise in Product Management related to Generic Product substitution, pricing, and contract hierarchy; experience owning and governing complex existing and NPL portfolios across the full product lifecycle and roadmap

  • Demonstrated ability to shape and execute existing and new product portfolio strategy that delivers sustained enterprise and customer value and supports longterm generics growth objectives

  • Experience with applying AI-driven analytics and decision-support tools that help shape and optimize the product portfolio strategy and make informed roadmap decisions for existing and new product launches

  • Deep, enterprise-level expertise in Generics systems, policies, practices, and Finance, with superior business and financial acumen

  • Enterprise pricing leadership experience, including governance of complex programs, pricing frameworks, and contract structures

  • Proven success leading complex customer negotiations with the ability to interpret, apply, and execute against sophisticated pricing and program models

  • Enterprise leadership presence with the ability to influence without authority, defend strategic positions, and lead effectively within a highly matrixed organization across multiple functions

  • Ability to align and mobilize senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders, gaining commitment and driving shared ownership of outcomes

  • Executive-level communication and storytelling capability, with proven experience translating complex concepts, insights, and recommendations into clear, compelling narratives for senior leadership

  • Strong track record of driving results through others, including setting direction, prioritizing enterprise initiatives, and ensuring execution, accountability, and follow-through

  • Recognized as a creative, strategic problem solver, challenging conventional approaches and driving innovative solutions that advance enterprise objectives

This role is a hybrid position. The selected candidate is expected to work on-site at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. Specific in-office days may be designated based on team needs and business priorities.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $172,500 - $287,500
