Job Summary
The Director of Business Development will play a critical role in driving global sales and business development strategy for our Pharmaceuticals division. Reporting to the Vice President CMO Business Development, the Director will play a crucial role in driving the growth of our Contract Manufacturing business by identifying and capitalizing on strategic partnerships and business development initiatives in the rapidly advancing sales and marketing of the Pharma Contract Manufacturing Organization.
The Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Product Management, Legal, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, Technical Operations, Quality, Regulatory, EH&S, Procurement, Project Management, Business Strategy, etc., to shape and execute business strategies that will foster innovation and accelerate growth in alignment with the overall business objectives and market needs. This role is responsible for influencing key stakeholders internally and externally to achieve business growth.
*Salary Range: $165,000-$205,000
*Position is eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan with a target of 16% of the base salary.
*Position is eligible to participate in our medium-term incentive plan.
*Final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities
- Support the development and execution of business strategies to expand the Pharma CMO division through partnerships, collaborations, and licensing deals with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify, evaluate, and cultivate new business opportunities by working with our multiple manufacturing sites, around the world, to fill their available capacity for contract manufacturing purposes. This would include potential collaborations with pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies, academic institutions, contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical manufacturing space.
- Drive, maintain, and execute the Contract Manufacturing Omnichannel marketing plan (digital/print media, website management, LinkedIn social media, banner ads/paid search, tradeshows, and YouTube content) in domestic and international markets.
- Drive the CMO marketing strategy by building on the awareness of Fresenius Kabi contract manufacturing capabilities, driving interest and consideration in manufacturing and/or development services with the Fresenius Kabi CMO, and by moving interested customers to RFP, quotation, and through to contractual agreement.
- Oversee and lead the end-to-end negotiation and execution of complex commercial contracts, ensuring terms align with strategic business goals, mitigate risk, and support long-term growth of the Pharma CMO portfolio.
- Create and develop quotations, letters of intent, etc. in support of CMO new business in domestic and/or international markets.
- Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive dynamics within the CMO and/or CDMO landscape to identify new opportunities and threats. Provide insights to senior leadership for strategic decision-making.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities and competitive advantages.
- Work closely with internal teams (R&D, Product Management, Legal, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, Technical Operations, Quality, Regulatory, EH&S, Procurement, Project Management, Business Strategy, etc.) to assess scientific and technical feasibility, drive business objectives, and manage project timelines and deliverables for partnerships.
- Lead financial and strategic evaluations of potential business opportunities, performing due diligence and risk assessments to inform decision-making and to ensure alignment with long-term corporate objectives.
- Develop financial models, forecasts, and business cases for potential business opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including executives, researchers, manufacturing professionals, quality professionals, business development professionals, EH&S and regulatory professionals, to support business development initiatives and facilitate deal-making.
- Provide regular updates and presentations to leadership on business development progress, opportunities, and risks. Prepare and present recommendations and proposals to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Utilize and contribute to Fresenius Kabi marketing campaigns, sponsored conferences, and local events to expand market knowledge, competitive intelligence, and contacts.
- Represent Fresenius Kabi at key industry events, conferences, and meetings to enhance visibility and build relationships.
- Be accountable for achieving Fresenius Kabi CMO sales targets and driving growth.
- Has strategic ownership of the CMO sales forecast and assist in development of long-term sales plan(s), along with updates to management on CMO sales and earnings progress versus long-term plan(s).
- Oversees, creates, and implements SOP, processes and procedures.
- Lead the project transition from the Customer to the appropriate internal owner once a contract (i.e. quote, supply agreement, etc.) decision is made with Fresenius Kabi.
- Identify and resolve emerging issues that may impact project, department or corporate goals.
- Recognize potential threats to the business opportunity and elevate issues to senior management.
- Propose solutions, resolve conflicts and make recommendations for improvement of existing processes or systems.
- Track KPIs and performance metrics to evaluate the success of business development initiatives.
- Mentor a team of business development professionals to ensure high performance and goal achievement. Develop, maintain, and execute strategic customer business plan and client relations.
- Ensure effective and timely communication with stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; preferred in supply chain, business, life science, or related field. MBA or advanced degree
- 12+ years of related experience supply chain, launch management, sales and/or business development
- 5+ years of experience directly working in the pharmaceutical industry, with deep understanding of sterile pharmaceutical industry, market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape
- Excellent negotiation and contract management skills with the ability to influence and drive consensus
- Strong project management capabilities with experience overseeing complex, cross-functional initiatives
- Ability to influence without authority and navigate complex matrix environments
- Familiarity with GMP-regulated manufacturing environments and regulatory frameworks across regions
- Highly driven, strategic thinker with deep knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with senior executives, partners, and external stakeholders
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Ability to be proficient with Salesforce CRM and business analytics
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and SharePoint.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft office, email, phones, cell phones, and office equipment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% with willingness and ability to travel internationally
