Description

Vedder's Chicago office is seeking a Systems Engineer. The Systems Engineer supports core infrastructure platforms with a focus on enterprise storage, data protection, and identity services. This role is responsible for maintaining reliable, secure systems while contributing to the firm's hybrid Microsoft environment (on-prem and Azure).
The position works closely with senior engineers to support and extend cloud and messaging platforms, providing operational depth and continuity across the infrastructure team.

As a Systems Engineer, your duties will include but not be limited to:

Storage (Primary Focus):



  • Administer and maintain NetApp storage environments
  • Manage file shares and access controls (NTFS permissions)
  • Support storage performance, capacity planning, and lifecycle management


Backup & Disaster Recovery:



  • Operate and maintain enterprise backup systems (Commvault)
  • Support and execute disaster recovery to Azure
  • Perform recovery testing and ensure data integrity


Identity & Directory Services:



  • Administer Active Directory (user, group, core directory services, and OS upgrades)
  • Support Entra ID (Azure AD) in coordination with cloud engineering
  • Maintain hybrid identity synchronization and access controls


Platform & Service Support:



  • Provide support coverage for Azure services (in partnership with Cloud Engineering)
  • Provide backup support for Exchange and messaging systems
  • Assist with platform stability, patching coordination, and issue resolution


Operations & Support:



  • Monitor system performance, availability, and health
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and coordinate resolution
  • Maintain documentation and contribute to operational standards


Skills & Competencies:



  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to operate in a production environment
  • Experience in a professional services environment


Qualifications & Required Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3-5+ years of IT infrastructure or advanced technical support experience required.
  • Hands-on experience with storage platforms (NetApp), disaster recovery processes, and exchange administration preferred.
  • Experience with Active Directory Administration, file systems and permissions management , and backup/recovery concepts (enterprise tools) is preferred.
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:



  • Windows Server (current versions), NetApp storage, Commvault or similar backup platforms, Azure and Entra ID, exchange/messaging systems required.


Compensation Range: $55,000/yr. to $65,000/yr.
