LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, SHELBY COUNTY Qualifications Education and Experience: Possession of a doctorate in psychology from an accredited university. Necessary Special Qualifications: Licensure or a temporary permit as a psychologist with the State of Tennessee is required at the time of employment and must be maintained for the duration of the one-year probationary period; licensure as a psychologist with the State of Tennessee is required by the end of the probationary period and must be maintained throughout employment. Overview Seeking a doctoral level Psychologist with at least three (3) years professional experience. Applicant's primary role will consist of coordinating court-ordered forensic services of Memphis Mental Health Institute. The Forensic Psychologist provides psychological expertise within legal, correctional, and investigative settings. This role conducts assessments, offers expert testimony, supports criminal and civil casework, and collaborates with legal and law enforcement professionals to inform decisions related to mental health and the justice system. Responsibilities Conduct psychological evaluations for criminal and civil cases, including competency, risk, and diagnostic assessments. Provide expert testimony in court regarding psychological findings and professional opinions. Develop treatment and rehabilitation plans for individuals involved in the legal or correctional system. Evaluate offenders for risk of reoffending, violence, or mental health needs. Collaborate with attorneys, judges, correctional staff, law enforcement, and social services. Prepare detailed written reports that summarize assessment results and recommendations. Conduct crisis intervention or consult on behavioral management strategies when needed. Assist in training staff on mental health issues, trauma, and behavioral management. Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality in alignment with legal and professional guidelines.
