The Programer supports the transformer control group with computer aided design and drafting (CADD) system technical expertise and programming. This position is a part of the Goldsboro Engineering Tools Team which supports the engineering and design workflows in Goldsboro related to electrical transformer design. The software engineer in this role will be one of two programmers on the team.

This role's focus is on automating and validating parts of different CAD workflows, i.e. principally supporting mechanical engineers that design transformers. Projects in this role's purview include auxiliary applications which facilitate data transfer between various steps in the design process, database development, and creating and maintaining extensions of the CAD software used here: PTC Creo Parametric.

The duties of the position are centered on product design, developing standard practices and incorporating these practices into computer automated design processes. The knowledge for the product and the product design process will be gained and maintained by regularly completing transformer production designs and by collaborating with the entire engineering design team. The individual will need good technical writing skills that will be applied by developing and maintaining design practices prior to incorporating these practices into computer programs. This individual will need a good working knowledge of object-oriented programming languages.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements on-going CADD operations in the mechanical engineering team with support from programmers
  • Learns how to plan and outline projects to further automate engineering information
  • Learns hardware, software, and backups
  • Coordinates with MIS to ensure system integrity
  • Shadows user group meetings and keeps the group current with the latest developments
  • Builds knowledge around troubleshooting and reducing system problems
  • Learns how information translates from hard to disc media. This includes translations from other CADD systems that have to be incorporated into our system.
  • Provides recommendations, initiates, and completes special project assignments
  • Consult with manufacturing process leaders to develop and optimize design solutions at the optimum total cost
  • Remain current with industry and technical developments and maintain a high level of expertise in designated areas of specialization
  • Resolve problems by influencing or motivating individuals or groups who are working toward mutual goals


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Must have good communication skills - oral and written
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently or on a team
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Understanding of CREO
  • Excellent process and problem-solving skills
  • Highly proficient in mathematics with the ability to document mathematic models
  • Strong foundation in basics tenants of product technology, including design and product testing
  • Knowledge of product application principles and understanding of specific application requirements
  • Data storage and retrieval methods including working with XML and databases


Required Education / Experience

Minimum qualifications:

  1. A four (4) year degree in computer science or equivalent work experience demonstrated competency in low-level application programing.
  2. Proficiency in the programming languages C, C++, and C#.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Five or more years (5+) of professional experience in software engineering in the area of building and maintaining computer-assisted design (CAD) extension softwares, in particular using PTC Creo Parametric's "Creo Toolkit" and "Creo Object Toolkit C++" application programming interfaces.
  2. Proficiency in Git and Subversion version control software for collaboration on software projects.
  3. Previous work in a manufacturing environment ideal.
