Facility Specialist

Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking a Facility Specialist to join our Astoria, NY team.

The Facility Specialist is responsible for supporting environmental operations through waste handling, documentation, and regulatory compliance. The role requires developing knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards, along with packaging guidelines and disposal practices. This position emphasizes teamwork, strong communication, and customer service while fostering leadership skills and problem-solving abilities. The Facility Specialist utilizes computerized waste tracking systems, contributes to operational goals, and delivers high-quality service to internal and external customers, while working toward obtaining and maintaining a CDL Class B with Hazmat endorsement. Key duties include preparing and reviewing waste profiles, managing inventory, and assisting with waste management and emergency response activities.

This position reports to the Facility Manager and is located in Astoria, NY.

Responsibilities:



  • Characterize, consolidate, pack, and ship hazardous waste for the facility per Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulations
  • Train on proper chemical safety and hazardous waste management
  • Perform and document environmental, health, and safety audits for our facilities
  • Respond to chemical spill emergencies by managing the containment, clean up, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Waste and documentation preparation.
  • Coordinate loading & unloading incoming & outgoing trucks.
  • Waste inventory management using Triumvirate designed software and computerized waste tracking systems.
  • Learn and retain a basic knowledge of daily work practices.
  • Become familiar with packaging guidelines and disposal facility selection.
  • Develop an understanding of OSHA regulations, Triumvirate's Health and Safety Practices, Triumvirate's Part B permit, and EPA regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with end facilities as well as fellow employees to solve complex issues.
  • Ability to work as a team player and independently.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and physical ability to lift 50 lbs. and move up pallets with equipment up to 2k lbs. and or 500lb drums with equipment when needed.
  • Able to think fast and bring solutions for unexpected incidents.
  • Respond to emergencies during work hours and outside of work hours.
  • Assist with regulatory audits; internal and external.
  • Become forklift trained and be able to safely operate machinery.



Basic Requirements:



  • BS/BA in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Safety and Occupational Health preferred, but all majors are welcome to apply or 1-2 years of industry experience
  • Interest in the environmental, health & safety field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Excel and data management.
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to engage effectively with employees and clients at all levels.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation.
  • Must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record screening, pre-employment physical, and drug screen (inclusive of THC).
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible hours (Monday through Friday).
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • This position is designated as Safety Sensitive.



Preferred Requirements:



  • DOT and HAZWOPER experience
  • CPR and First Aid Training
  • FDNY C91-C92
  • Experience in a customer service environment
