Overview
The Columbia Ship Control Engineering (D432) applies several engineering disciplines to develop, deliver, maintain and support advanced fly-by-wire control systems. Engineering opportunities range from initial system design through development, hardware/software integration, test, delivery, and integration of these systems aboard nuclear submarines. The role of the Cybersecurity Systems Engineer is to support continuous monitoring and enforcement of control systems security risk assessments. This includes following and writing processes for continuous improvement and operation. This also includes writing and providing training to enforce control systems security compliance. The objective is to ensure that cybersecurity requirements are implemented and validated and track requirements that are not being met. Related responsibilities include equipment research, project management, risk management, preparing presentations, and participating in customer meetings. Cybersecurity Systems Engineers on our team typically perform the following types of work:
Perform cyber security analysis, configuration, and testing on shipboard systems.
- Propose and design systems architecture changes with traceability to cybersecurity requirements
- Work in close collaboration with component engineers to resolve control systems security discrepancies and IT system issues
- DoD/DoN platform information technology system analysis, development of security control implementation plans, system certification and continuous monitoring
- Apply analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of Cyber Security implementation
- Design, implementation, operation and maintenance of sensitive unclassified and classified computing systems in accordance with NAVSEA processes
- Review of equipment vendor software deliverables to evaluate compliance with cybersecurity requirements

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or Computer Science
- 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense
Preferred:
- Understanding of NIST 800-53 security controls
- Experience with risk management framework NIST 800-37
- US Navy submarine service
- Experience in security of control systems
- Experience with Engineering and requirement management tools: IBM Rational DOORS, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience authoring and maintaining critical program documents such as Cybersecurity Strategies, System Security Plans, Continuous Monitoring Plans, Security Assessment Plans, etc.
- Experience in a Systems Engineering role with responsibilities in the planning, designing, implementation, testing, and delivery of a system with Cyber/Information Assurance requirements
