What to Expect

The Self Perform Mechanical Safety Coordinator is an hourly field role responsible for driving a strong safety culture across a mechanical installation team of approximately 97 craft workers spanning multiple active job sites in the Reno region. This position works directly alongside field crews, superintendents, and foremen to enforce safe work practices, maintain compliance, and support a zero-incident work environment. This role will be Reno local and will require travel to multiple job sites throughout the Reno Region.


What You'll Do
  • Conduct daily safety walks and site inspections across multiple active job sites, documenting observations and corrective actions and provide safe means of work recommendations to field hands

  • Facilitate toolbox talks, pre-task planning (PTP/JHA), and safety briefings with field crews at the start of each shift

  • Track and document safety observations, near-misses, incidents, and corrective actions in project safety systems

  • Coordinate with site superintendents and foremen to enforce safe work practices and Tesla EHS standards

  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action documentation

  • Assist with onboarding and site-specific safety orientation for new crew members joining the project

  • Monitor regulatory compliance with OSHA standards, site-specific requirements, and Tesla EHS protocols

What You'll Bring
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification required; CHST or STSC certification a plus
  • 3+ years of field safety coordination experience on industrial, mechanical, or large-scale commercial construction projects
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead safety conversations with crews of varying experience levels
  • Familiarity with mechanical, piping, and HVAC trades and associated hazards (pressure testing, overhead work, confined space, chemical handling)
  • Experience with incident reporting systems and safety documentation platforms
  • Physical stamina to conduct walking inspections across large, active construction sites on 12-hour shifts
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-site environment and manage competing priorities across crews
