GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for: evaluation through exercise testing, preliminary interpretation of exercise testing data, exercise prescription for apparently healthy, diseased, and special populations and exercise leadership. They perform exercise testing on inpatients and outpatients. Exercise Physiologist uses advanced knowledge and skills to manage situations and problems that are inherent to cardiac exercise studies. Cardiology Services include, but not limited to: Cardiac Rehabilitation, EKG, Exercise testing, Radionclide exercise or pharmacological testing, holter monitor scanning, holter monitor application, echocardiography, stress echocardiography, dobutamine stress, transeophageal echo and tilt table testing. Additionally, the exercise specialist is to promote wellness by instituting various exercise regimens as part of a patient specific medical regimen. AHA-BLS certification is required however, certification is not a qualifying factor to obtain the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Skills Required:
1. Advance degree A.S., B.S., M.S. in a program requiring special knowledge in human cardiac anatomy, physiology exercise prescription, pathophysiology and special population needs required. Master of Science in Exercise Physiology preferred.
2. AHA-BLS is required within 6 months of hire or a current non-AHA-BLS card will be honored up to date of renewal.
3. Two (2) years experience in similar setting preferred.
4. The incumbent must be willing to apply for and attain ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist within one year.
As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
