THE POSITION

As an Automotive Mechanic for Norristown State Hospital, you will support daily operations by keeping vehicles and equipment reliable. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the transportation and maintenance needs of Norristown State Hospital by ensuring that all vehicles and equipment remain safe and operational. As a Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Inspections: Conduct inspections on all vehicles to ensure compliance with state safety and inspection standards
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, and safety checks across hospital vehicles and equipment
  • Engine and Tune-Ups: Complete tune-ups, replace ignition components, and set engines to factory specifications using available tools
  • Drive Train Repairs: Repair or replace major drive train components including clutches, drive shafts, bearings, and differentials
  • Component Repairs: Repair or replace starters, alternators, pumps, motors, exhaust components, and related systems
  • Welding and Fabrication: Use acetylene torch and arc welder for cutting, fabrication, or repairs as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as operationally necessary
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate.
