Position Summary:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant toprovide specialty medical care within the outpatient and surgical settings. This position is located in Wauwatosa, WI at the Tosa Center location as well as Menomonee Falls, WI. TheAdvanced Practice Provider(APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights:
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Plastic Surgery intervention in outpatient environment

  • Supports surgeons with procedures in the operating room

  • Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.

  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.

  • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Plastic Surgery services.

  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.

  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.

  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.

  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Schedule:

Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs.

Monday-Friday with expectations for coverage during core business hours.

  • The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Plastic Surgery has thirteen full-time plastic surgeons who specialize in every aspect of plastic surgery including reconstructive surgery, breast surgery, cosmetic surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, pediatric plastic surgery, craniofacial surgery, and cancer reconstruction.

  • We have a psychologist on our staff as well as fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurses, and other staff members who are dedicated to providing the best in plastic surgery care.

  • The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients as a member of the Department ofPlastic Surgery.

  • The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years experience within a surgical specialty, including support of procedures

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Plastic Surgery

Minimum Education:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

    • Wisconsin RN License

    • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License

    • Certification Requirements (multi-select which are applicable for position):

      • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

      • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) required within 6 months of start date

    • DEA registration

    • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization (

      • Certification as Adult Care NP or Family Practice NP preferred

      • Will consider certification as Acute Care NP

      • AHA BCLS

      • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
