Job Summary
The Yard Traffic Coordinator supports safe, efficient, and timely inbound and outbound traffic flow within and between assigned trucking yards by coordinating vehicle movement, staging, and communication to minimize congestion and operational delays.

Primary Objectives
  • Coordinate yard traffic flow to support efficient warehouse and transportation operations.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and compliant yard conditions at all times.
  • Facilitate effective communication between drivers, warehouse personnel, and operations leadership.
  • Support continuous adjustments to yard activity in response to changing operational demands.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate inbound and outbound truck, trailer, and yard vehicle movement.
  • Manage trailer spotting, parking, and staging to maximize yard capacity and flow.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers entering or exiting the yard.
  • Monitor yard congestion and proactively adjust traffic patterns to reduce delays.
  • Coordinate activities between nearby yard locations to support ongoing operational needs.
  • Travel between assigned yard locations during the business day to retrieve paperwork, communicate changes, and support coordination needs.
  • Communicate directly with warehouse staff regarding dock assignments, priorities, and schedule changes.
  • Maintain awareness of yard safety hazards and report or escalate issues as needed.
  • Enforce yard rules, safety protocols, and traffic procedures.
  • Maintain basic yard records, logs, or paperwork related to movements and activities.
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities, last-minute schedule changes, and operational disruptions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (HSED) preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid state-issued driver license and acceptable driving record required
Work Experience
  • 1+ years of experience in truck yard operations, trucking, logistics, or warehouse environments required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply practical understanding of trucking and warehouse operations to real-time yard coordination.
  • Ability to maintain organized, accurate records and follow established processes with attention to detail.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational conditions throughout the workday.
  • Ability to read and interpret bills of lading (BOL) and manifests.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to recognize congestion or safety risks and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to remain organized and calm in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and become proficient with software applications and tracking systems.

Working Environment
This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:
  • Freight warehouse facility, office, outdoor yard and lot, and workshop settings, where hot, humid, cold, and other inclement weather conditions may occur.
  • Work days and hours may vary to accommodate operations.
Travel
Occasional Must be able to travel independently between local company facilities.
