Position Summary

The Commercial Rental Sales Rep is responsible for developing and growing rental revenue within a defined territory focused on hotels, convention centers, big-box retail stores, shopping centers, and large commercial facilities. This position requires strong relationship building with facility managers, engineers, property managers, and operations leaders. The role centers on identifying equipment needs for planned maintenance, events, seasonal work, emergencies, remodeling, and operational support. The representative must demonstrate professionalism, initiative, responsiveness, strong communication skills, and the ability to recommend rental solutions that ensure customers operate safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, customer-focused, and committed to representing Thompson CAT Rentals with a high level of integrity and service.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations



  • Develop and manage a territory of commercial and facilities-based accounts, including hotels, convention centers, large retail centers, and property management groups.
  • Conduct regular onsite visits to understand operational needs, facility maintenance cycles, event schedules, and upcoming projects.
  • Promote rental equipment solutions including mobile work platforms, and maintenance-related tools.
  • Prepare and deliver quotes, proposals, and pricing within company guidelines.
  • Coordinate rental activity with inside rental reps, dispatch, yard personnel, and service teams to ensure timely delivery and equipment readiness.
  • Follow up with customers throughout the rental cycle to ensure satisfaction, anticipate needs, and support long-term retention.
  • Track customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity in CRM and required systems.
  • Monitor local market conditions, competitive activity, and upcoming commercial events or remodels.
  • Participate in training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment capabilities, safe operation, and rental processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education



  • College degree preferred OR equivalent experience (2-4 years in sales, rental, or facility services).


Experience



  • Prior outside sales experience preferred, especially in commercial services, facility solutions, MRO, equipment rental, or industrial supply.
  • Experience with personal computers, CRM systems, and basic typing and data entry is required.


Skills & Competencies

  • Basic equipment knowledge, including aerial lifts, HVAC, and power generation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and rental software systems


Safety Summary

Working Conditions



  • Work will be performed primarily in the field, visiting commercial facilities, retail centers, and customer sites.
  • Some time will be spent in office or branch environments.
  • Exposure to physical hazards is limited but may occur when accessing back-of-house areas, rooftops, loading docks, and equipment operating zones.
  • Light physical activity is required.
