Position Summary Under general supervision, work with user groups to solve business problems with available technology including hardware, software, databases, and peripherals. Provides support to researchers in the purchase and administration of computing nodes. Support of researchers and Tandon is a prime objective of the IT department. Qualifications Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Information and Technology or related field Required Experience: 3+ years as a Linux Specialist with a minimum 3 years of experience. Experience with application infrastructures in Linux, Storage and Virtualization platforms. Preferred Experience: Linux Specialist with a minimum 3 years of experience. Experience with application infrastructures in Linux, and Storage platforms. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Advanced administration of RHEL/CentOS/Rocky, Ubuntu Server, or Debian Experience with VMware, KVM, or Proxmox; familiarity with Docker/Singularity containers. Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, and firewall management Provide high-level 'consultative' support to researchers who may be experts in their field but require guidance on Linux command-line tools, scripting, and resource optimization Ability to define, document, and clearly communicate overall architecture and engineering considerations. Ability to work in a dynamic, multi-vendor environment. Strong inter-personal and communication skills: capable of training users in complex topics, making presentations to internal groups. Able to write intricate system and user documentation. Capable of writing and explaining purchase justifications. Very comfortable with most aspects of the Linux operating system: paging/swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device driver fundamentals, file system concepts like inode and superblock. Familiar with fundamental networking/distributed computing environments and concepts. Ability to configure NFS and leverage DNS when necessary. Ability to write detailed scripts in at least one, preferably two administrative languages. Ability to perform debugging and modification of C programs. Experience with VMware, KVM, or Proxmox; familiarity with Docker or Singularity containers. Experience with Red Hat and NetApp is preferred. Additional Information In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $74,700.00 to USD $91,300.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
