The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in various trades such as grounds work, painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, and electrical work. Cyclic maintenance involves routine duties such as: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, various fixtures, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets. Painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, and replacing broken window panes. This list is not all-inclusive and the GMW's primary responsibilities overall include performing general maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repairs on buildings, equipment, and machinery in various trades.

Salary
  • $38.05/hr.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  • Inspect, operate, or test equipment to diagnose malfunctions
  • Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges
  • Paint or repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures
  • Align and balance new equipment after installation
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work
  • Inspect buildings following a checklist
  • Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices
  • Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts using hand tools and power tools
  • Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms
  • Maintain inventory on tools and equipment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Essential Skills
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in a commercial/industrial setting
    • methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Use hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Adaptable and flexible in work situations
  • Prioritizes tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner
  • PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment
    • Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 1+ years related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building and/or utility trades
  • Valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID Act or are you willing and able to obtain one
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Regular, dependable attendance
  • U. S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
  • Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
  • Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
