The Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University is dedicated to delivering transformational educational experiences that prepare and inspire students to become ethical, innovative, and engaged business leaders who make a positive impact both locally and globally. Within this mission-driven environment, this position plays a vital role in the
College's Dean's Office. Serving as a key support resource to the Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Administration, the role contributes to the effective management of academic, administrative, and stakeholder-focused initiatives across the College through the following essential job functions:
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Senior Associate Dean overseeing Undergraduate Programs and Administration.
- Serve as a key backup for the Dean's Office, offering administrative support across multiple functional areas as needed.
- Exercise independent judgment and make decisions in coordination with, or on behalf of, the Senior Associate Dean during their absence.
- Oversee the College's scholarship budgets and administer scholarship awards.
- Coordinate and manage the College's curriculum proposal and approval processes.
- Lead the planning and execution of major College events, including the Scholarship Reception, Beta Gamma Sigma Induction, and Honors Convocation.
- Act as a primary point of contact for College constituents, including faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and donors.
- Maintain regular communication with department chairs, administrative staff, the budget director, director of development, associate deans, and the assistant to the dean regarding scholarships, budgets, curriculum matters, and other College operations.
- Represent the College at University and College-wide meetings, programs, and events.

Knowledge: Program & Organization:
Possess significant operational knowledge of the purpose of the WCOB's organization, including its mission, goals, priorities, commitments, and outcomes. Apply such knowledge in assisting the Associate Dean in
WCOB Faculty Committee meetings, including the Faculty Development Committee, Grade Appeal Committee, and other committees chaired by the Associate Dean.
Possess significant knowledge of the curricular and co-curricular programs of the
WCOB. Apply such knowledge in assisting the Associate Dean in
WCOB Undergraduate Curriculum Committee meetings, managing the flow of information in AP&P process. Possess considerable awareness of extra-curricular programs, and internal and external constituents, including students, staff, administrators, parents, alumni, recruiters, and donors, along with prospective students, faculty, and donors. Apply such knowledge in management of
WCOB scholarship program and in assisting the Dean's Office in organizing and staging
WCOB activities (e.g., Scholarship Reception,
WCOB Honors Convocation, Business Connections, and
CEO Lecture). Apply knowledge of practices, policies, laws, rules, and regulations in all work related to scholarship awards, the curriculum approval process, access to student information, and all related duties. Possess knowledge of office technology and other software necessary for the most efficient performance of duties (e.g., Microsoft Office products, Banner, Dashboard, Google Workspace, Curriculog, Scholarship Administration Software). Continuously improve processes using applicable technology, web-based data systems and programs.
Information/Record Administration:
Develop and recommend new approaches to improve records and information management. Create and maintain scholarship budgets, scholarship management software, Dashboard, e-Print reports, and spreadsheets for managing events including Beta Gamma Sigma, Honors Convocation, Scholarship Reception, and Faculty/Staff Awards. Track all
WCOB curriculum proposals through the curriculum approval process. Manage all scholarship information through scholarship software and local backup systems. Create and serve as content assistant for all Associate Dean's committee work groups.
Communication:
Explain application of budget, scholarship, and curriculum proposal procedures to students, faculty, staff, parents, and donors. Maintain current knowledge of
WCOB and University policies and procedures. Represent the Associate Dean to constituents, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and donors. Coordinate work flow of Associate Dean's office. Answer and direct incoming calls to the Associate Dean's office. Greet and assist visitors to the Associate Dean's office. Assist the Associate Dean in other administrative ways as needed. |
