I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
The Graduate School of Education and Human Development is a premier school with exceptional faculty teaching across programs in International Education, Adult Education, Disability Studies, and Curriculum and Design, among others. The Department of Counseling and Human Development holds a strong clinical focus, utilizing the clinic as an opportunity to hone students' clinical skills before entering into internship. Additionally, The George Washington University's Community Counseling Services Center ( CCSC) provides low-cost counseling and referral services, clinical screenings, and outreach programming for the neighboring communities.

The CCSC is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Senior Staff Clinician, CCSC-a unique opportunity to lead innovative mental health services while mentoring the next generation of counseling professionals. Rooted in an antiracist and anti-oppressive framework, the CCSC empowers clients through community outreach and advocacy, while offering a dynamic training environment where master's and doctoral-level students develop clinical expertise under the close supervision of dedicated faculty and licensed professionals.

This position reports directly to the Director. A successful candidate must be able to work evenings on a regular basis and occasionally on a weekend. The incumbent is expected to efficiently lead a team, maintain confidential client and student information in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations, and possess enthusiasm for the counseling field and the training of mental health counselors.

Core Responsibilities:

Counseling Services and Student Supervision:

  • Employ and promote antiracist/anti-oppressive praxis in clinic management and supervision.
  • Be present and available for consultation during clinic hours.
  • Provide clinical supervision to up to 6 master's and/or doctoral counseling interns across the 3 semesters (includes review of tapes, provision of individual/triadic supervision, signing of notes, ensuring files are in order, provision of formative and summative feedback).
  • Screen and schedule clients for counseling interns, set client fees.
  • Maintain accurate referral list for clients' and counseling interns' use.
  • Update yearly training curriculum for counseling students and supervisors.
  • Market the CCSC to prospective clients and referral sources.
  • Examine potential funding opportunities for clinics.
  • Ensure adherence of counseling interns and supervisor interns to the policies and procedures of the clinics, department, university, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain and manage technology systems associated with the clinical training program, including the electronic health record and the video-recording capacities of the CCSC, and ensure the confidentiality of all client records, recordings, and documents.
  • Provide crisis management oversight and monitoring CCSC services about professional and ethical service provision.
  • Assist in daily operations (including and not limited to ensuring the equipment works properly, the space is clean and safe, and ensuring adequate supplies in conjunction with department administrator).
  • Monitor payments, client sessions, attendance, appropriateness for student clinic, and administrative aspects of clinic management.
  • Maintain and manage technology systems such as the electronic health records and the video-recording capacities of the CCSC, and ensure the confidentiality of all client records, recordings, and documents.


Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are reasonably related to the position.

This is an on-site role in Washington, DC. There are required evening hours on a regular basis and occasionally weekend schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold an advanced degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, or counseling), plus two (2) years of relevant professional experience. A license in Washington, D.C. is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Must be licensed as an LPC by the Board of Professional Counseling for the District of Columbia or obtain licensure within six months of hire.

Hiring Range $66,095.67 - $109,075.91
