Application Window Open date: May 1, 2026 Next review date: Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Nov 1, 2027 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Spring 2026 Project Manager, Data Science - 2 Specialists Positions in the Arnaout Team The Arnaout Lab is now recruiting for a Specialist at the Junior, Assistant, or Associate rank. This position will carry out grant-funded research to study computational imaging and related biosignals. The successful applicant will work with the PI under direct supervision in designing, testing, and validating algorithms and machine learning models for data analysis, providing data visualization of analyzed results, for various ongoing life sciences projects. The successful applicant will use professional bioinformatics concepts, and assist in additional analyses as needed to achieve research objectives. Required qualifications: Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of relevant research experience. Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with 3 or more years of research experience. Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience in the relevant specialization. Knowledge of bioinformatics methods, databases, data structures. Self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate strong organizational and problem solving skills. Team player with interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. Fluency in Python. Working knowledge of biostatistics and basic statistical testing. Expertise in machine learning techniques such as convolutional neural networks, recursive neural networks, LSTMs, random forests. Interest in applying computational analysis to life sciences data. High integrity and professionalism to work with patient data in a HIPPA-compliant and morally and ethically responsible manner. Preferred qualifications: Working project management skills. Working knowledge of applications programming and web development. Industry experience in data science, specifically with cutting-edge machine learning approaches to data analysis (1 year minimum; 2-3 years preferred). Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.
