The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN), founded in 1964, is a regional tertiary center and has the proud distinction of being one of the first neonatal intensive care units in the world. In addition to caring for extremely premature infants, the ICN also cares for infants with congenital anomalies in need of evaluation and surgical interventions. The ICN opened the first Neuro Intensive care unit for newborns in 2008. Today, the ICN continues to enjoy a reputation for being at the forefront of innovation in the fields of neonatology and fetal treatment. Neonatologists, neurologists, radiologists and nurses work to improve neuro developmental outcomes in very premature infants and full-term babies who are at high risk of neurological injury or have clinical evidence of encephalopathy, seizures or stroke. The ICN provides state of the art care for infants with neurological, gastrointestinal, renal and skeletal, cardiac and respiratory diseases. We are one of a few centers in Northern California that provides ECMO and are recognized as an ECMO Center of Excellence. Involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.
Assists the Unit Director (UD) in ensuring the quality of a patient care in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice, kindness, and empathy. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and materiel resources on a 24-hour basis. Assumes full responsibility for the unit in areas delegated and in the absence of the UD. This position manages direct reports collaboratively with the Unit Director and three Assistant Unit Directors. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Two years of ICN nursing experience (Three years preferred)
- Three years of progressive experience in patient care services. Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.
- Strong leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines.
- Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.
- Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Registered Nurse in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR certification
- Active American Heart Association NRP certification
