DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
In this role, you will operate a variety of trucks, loaders, and other equipment while supporting essential roadway maintenance activities throughout the county. Along with equipment operation, you'll perform manual labor tasks, assist with repairs, and help ensure safe work zones and efficient maintenance operations. Key Responsibilities
- Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned equipment, including completing daily pre- and post-operation inspections.
- Perform manual labor such as clearing culverts, cutting grass and brush, repairing guiderails, erecting signs, and assisting with general roadway maintenance.
- Assist with traffic control by performing flagging duties when not operating equipment.
- Make field adjustments, conduct minor repairs, perform preventive maintenance, and demonstrate equipment operation to coworkers as needed.
- Support mechanics with equipment repairs and maintain accurate records of equipment usage.
- Safely install and remove tire chains and follow all safety procedures, including proper use of protective gear and prompt reporting of injuries or equipment incidents.
- Contribute to building and grounds maintenance, and assist in storeroom, stockpile, or other operational areas as required.
- Work effectively as part of a team, maintain reliable attendance, and uphold environmental protection standards during maintenance activities.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Hours may vary and overtime may be required during weather events.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
Additional Requirements:
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
