Description

Leidos is seeking an Optical Sensor Intern to assist in developing novel sensor technology, support electronics, data collection and analysis, and algorithm development. This is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience with hardware, system development and data collection in both a laboratory and field environment. During your time at Leidos, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of mentors and engineers to complete required tasks and objectives, while maintaining a strict timeline. A motivated and agile candidate would gain not only technical skills and experience, but the opportunity to take part in team-building and personal development activities.

Your expected roles and responsibilities will be:

  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to develop a novel, distributed, remote sensing prototype based on non-traditional optical sensors.
  • Developing software to communicate with the sensors and support electronics hardware
  • Developing software to collect and store data from the sensors during testing
  • Supporting laboratory and field measurements including equipment setup, data collection, breakdown and analysis
  • Participating in program meetings, status updates, and team discussions, which could include presentations on your work, providing suggestions and input for system development and improvement, and collaborating with other team members
  • Working within a team to develop and demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, communication skills, and self-motivation

To be considered for this position, you must possess these qualifications and skills:

  • Education: working towards a high school diploma
  • Experience with Python
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • US citizenship required

Additionally, if you have these desired skills, you will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience communicating with electronic hardware
  • Experience with optical sensing technology
  • Experience with soldering and equipment building
  • Experience with data collection and analysis

Pay Range:Pay Range $35,100.00 - $63,450.00
