Position Title: Phlebotomist II
Work Location: 1375 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY (PSC)
Assignment Duration: 3-Month
Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Every other Saturday, 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM



Position Summary:

The primary function of a Phlebotomist is to perform assigned duties including specimen collection, troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data
  • Collect and store specimens following established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes (blood, urine, fecal, etc.)
  • Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles
  • Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
  • Verify test requisitions or labels against orders for accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity
  • Store specimens at required temperatures using proper containers
  • Follow protocol-specific procedures for specimen handling and transport
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend required annual training sessions
  • Handle incoming calls and communicate lab results when needed
  • Perform blood collection and processing in a PSC setting


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state)
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred
  • At least 1 year of blood drawing experience
  • Comfortable handling difficult draws (hard sticks)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED


Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Majority of the shift involves standing (with a lunch break)
  • Medium-sized PSC environment
  • Work alongside one other full-time employee
  • Initial training (first two weeks) may require floating to other sites


Additional Information:

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day)
  • 20-50 draws per day
  • Pediatrics and geriatrics experience preferred
  • Required vaccines: MMR, TB, Hep B (declinable), and color vision requirement
  • Hospital phlebotomy experience is a plus
