What to Expect

Tesla's Charging network is expanding fast across North America - Superchargers, semi-charging infrastructure, and new operational environments are deploying at a pace that demands world-class EHS support. As a Sr. EHS Specialist, Charging Deployment Operations, you'll drive safety across this portfolio, shaping how we protect people while building the infrastructure for sustainable transportation.

You'll lead contractor EHS management, support diverse facility types including food service environments, and partner with senior regional leadership, front-line teams, and contracting partners to embed safety from pre-construction through operations. This position is based in California or Texas, with preference for Southern California, San Francisco Bay Area, or Austin/Houston metro areas, and requires regional travel (up to 40%) with potential for international trips to support global projects.


What You'll Do
  • Serve as a key advisor on EHS matters to Tesla Charging business leaders, associates, and contractors. Lead contractor EHS management across North American Charging operations, including qualification, onboarding, performance monitoring, corrective action, and EHS alignment through Tesla's workforce management system
  • Act as an EHS technical expert for Legal compliance and risk management across all product deployment phases, focusing on safe design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance
  • Provide field-level EHS support across Charging deployment programs - including Supercharger, semi-charging, and related infrastructure - through site visits, pre-construction reviews, and operational readiness assessments
  • Support the development and implementation of food safety and operational safety protocols for diverse facility types, ensuring compliance with applicable health department regulations and industry standards
  • Conduct training sessions, inspections, event learnings, and emergency preparedness initiatives to influence daily operations and drive EHS improvements aligned with Tesla's vision and values
  • Respond to and learn from EHS events, analyze root causes, and develop preventative actions with management and business teams, while promoting Human & Organizational Performance principles in operations. Identify operational gaps and spearhead creative EHS solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders, encompassing electrical and other safety aspects
  • Lead EHS meetings to communicate improvements, learnings, and performance metrics, and actively engage in field activities to educate, train, and empower teams on EHS concepts to minimize risk in line with Tesla's EHS vision and values

What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of EHS experience in large organizations, with an educational background in EHS, engineering, or related fields
  • Experience in the charging, electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries
  • Practical experience in construction safety, working at heights, electrical safety, and environmental risks, with knowledge of local and national regulatory agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, attention to detail, problem-solving expertise, the capacity to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment, and the ability to work independently and as a proactive, creative team player
  • Demonstrated experience in applying governmental and regulatory EHS regulations in various settings, strong problem-solving abilities, effective relationship-building and influencing skills at all management levels, and proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractor safety programs, including qualification, onboarding, and performance management across multiple sites or regions
  • Experience with food safety management systems (e.g., ServSafe, HACCP) or health department regulatory compliance is preferred

    Expected Compensation
    $96,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
