THE POSITION

The Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections offers a chance to make a real impact every day. You will work in a hands-on environment at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest, where your expertise helps others grow. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides structured classroom and on-the-job instruction for inmates in the plumbing trade while supporting the safe and efficient operation of SCI Forest. As a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Training Delivery: Teach plumbing principles, systems, and safe work practices in both classroom and worksite settings
  • Work Crew Oversight: Guide inmate work crews while monitoring performance and maintaining order
  • Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate records of attendance, training progress, and daily assignments
  • Tool Control: Issue, track, and account for all materials and tools used during training and work assignments
  • Material Planning: Identify needed materials and submit purchase requests to support plumbing projects
  • Safety Enforcement: Promote safe conduct through searches, inspections, and consistent application of facility rules

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.

Other Requirements:

  • You must successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
