THE POSITION

Become a valued member of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Roadway Programs Technician 1 who helps keep roadway programs moving in the right direction. This position gives you the opportunity to support field operations, track key information, and assist staff across many areas. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support county maintenance operations by helping track data, monitor activities, and assist with inventory and clerical tasks. You will contribute to safe and effective roadway programs through detailed review and coordination. As a Roadway Programs Technician 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Data Review: Examine maintenance and equipment information to help ensure program goals are met
  • Field Monitoring: Observe maintenance activities and gather information needed to support work standards
  • Inventory Control: Track material levels, update records, and help keep resources available for crew operations
  • Accident Reporting: Collect incident information, prepare estimates, and coordinate repairs to damaged roadway assets
  • Clerical Support: Provide office assistance such as typing, filing, answering calls, and updating maintenance systems
  • Program Coordination: Support programs such as Adopt A Highway, SECA, and roadside safety initiatives

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Technical Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment and graduation from high school or GED equivalent; or
  • An Associate's Degree in a field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or other closely related program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a current driver's license which is not under suspension
