Job Summary:

  • Preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and analyses to support the Corporate Accounting function on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis focusing on prepaid insurance, accrued expenses, and accounts payable.
  • Liase between Corporate Accounting, IT, Marketing, Legal, and other departments
  • Crosstrain and serve as back up for other Corporate Accounting tasks, as needed

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for accounting, recording, reporting, and coordinating with other teams for common transactions and shared processes across all NRG entities, such as accounts payable accruals, prepaid insurance, and vendor invoice management accruals.
  • Preparation of related monthly and quarterly account reconciliations
  • Review of entries and perform reconciliations related to NRG's captive insurance entity including all semi-annual actuarial adjustments
  • Preparation of various consolidating analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis, including understanding investigating variances
  • Responsible for responding to questions from regional accountants, external auditors, and internal auditors
  • Ability to perform research within the general ledger and work with various departments regarding the flow of transactions
  • Participate in and follow the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and checklist
  • Assist with special projects as requested
  • Assist with Sarbanes Oxley testing
  • Able to assist on ad hoc requests and analysis in the requested timeframe.
  • Perform duties as assigned following SOX and NRG policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all processes are documented, and checklists created
  • Assist with implementing new tasks or adding efficiency to current tasks
  • Assist with acquisition or dispositions as it impacts corporate accounting tasks
Working Conditions:

  • Some overtime required during monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and as special projects arise

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with experience in general accounting
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience, including some or all the following: journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, monthly closing process, and monthly reports
  • Good working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Knowledge of accounting software, specifically SAP and HFM/Hyperion preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, in particular Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is strongly preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to set priorities and respond to changing demands from multiple sources

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

The base salary range for this position is: $95,000.00. The base salary range above represents the low and high ends of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program, which includes, but is not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
