Mass General Physicians Organization
United States, Massachusetts, Boston
185 Cambridge Street (Show on map)
Apr 28, 2026
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Lindsay Laboratory in the Cardiovascular Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic postdoctoral Research Fellow to lead an array of collaborative studies to develop gene therapies for rare, genetically-triggered aortopathies and associated arteriopathies. The fellow will have a close working relationship with CVRC's Lindsay Lab and the Musolino Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine. Both labs are dedicated to the development and application of innovations in gene therapy technologies for rare vascular conditions. The candidate will be expected to have experience, or high capacity to learn, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, murine modeling, and various molecular genetic techniques. The team will include the Principal Investigators and other faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and research technicians and technologists. In this position we are seeking a Research Fellow with the enthusiasm to develop projects that will contribute to diverse and highly collaborative research programs. Qualified candidates, please email a CV and cover letter to Dr. Mark Lindsay: Lindsay.Mark@mgh.harvard.edu.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform CRISPR-based genome editing using established protocols
  • Learn organoid differentiation across varying lineages, help to drive forward established and novel protocols with team leadership
  • Perform molecular genomics procedures as needed (i.e., DNA/RNA extraction, library production, RNAseq, sample archiving, tissue culture, etc.)
  • Design, execute, and interpret research experiments
  • Learn any number of molecular genomics techniques including single-cell RNAseq (scRNAseq), ATACseq, ChIPseq, HiC, and other methods
  • Routinely check medium, reagents, and plasticwares for cell culture experiments
  • Maintain mouse colonies and process murine tissues for phenotypic evaluation
  • Perform noninvasive and invasive hemodynamic assessments of mouse models of human disease
  • Maintain laboratory notebook
  • Independently follow detailed protocols while working closely with a wide range of lab members (i.e., graduate students, postdocs, technicians, staff scientists)
  • Assist in training new Research Technicians and Fellows
  • Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
  • Investigate, create, and develop new methods and technologies for research advancements.
  • Preparation of written data reports, including methodology, figure preparations, written description of the study in the form of manuscripts and/or progress reports.
  • Contribute to research presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
  • Oversight of laboratory technicians participating on the projects, including training them, and assisting them with experimental design and implementation.
  • Compose and present sections of research reports.
  • Organize and/or draft material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, or other documents for publication and/or presentation.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Experience in molecular genomic techniques (i.e., PCR, qPCR, RNAseq, gel electrophoresis)
  • Experience in mammalian cell culturerequired
  • Interest in learning and troubleshooting new molecular biology techniques
  • Familiarity with animal modeling of disease
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise and train staff effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, set deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in response to changing deadlines and needs of the lab.
  • Ability to function with speed, precision, and an understanding of theory behind protocols and experiments.

EDUCATION:

M.D. or Ph.D. in biological field required. Exceptional candidates with a doctorate and an MS degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience will be considered.
