Position Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs across the manufacturing facility. This role partners closely with operations leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, minimize risk, and drive a proactive safety culture aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and audits.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the facility.
- Maintain OSHA logs and ensure accurate, timely reporting.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Environmental Management
- Oversee environmental compliance programs, including permits, reporting, and inspections.
- Manage hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal in accordance with regulations.
- Track environmental metrics and support sustainability initiatives.
Training & Safety Culture
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive safety training programs across the organization.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing refresher training.
- Administer and monitor required safety certifications and training compliance, including:
- Electrical safety
- Forklift/operator certification
- CPR/First Aid
- Bloodborne pathogens
- Safe lifting and material handling
- Maintain accurate training records and certification tracking to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Partner with supervisors to ensure employees are properly trained and certified prior to performing job duties.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement initiatives and continuous education.
Program Development & Leadership
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
- Oversee key safety programs, including:
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Hazard Communication
- PPE Program
- Machine Guarding
- Emergency Response
- Coordinate emergency preparedness planning and drills.
Reporting & Strategic Support
- Track, analyze, and report safety and environmental performance metrics to executive leadership.
- Provide recommendations to the COO on risk mitigation and safety improvements.
- Support operational initiatives by integrating EHS considerations into business decisions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-7+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Certifications (Preferred)
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- First Aid/CPR Certification
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and frontline employees
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence change and drive safety initiatives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS systems
Physical Requirements
- Regular presence on the production floor
- Ability to lift up to 25-50 lbs (if applicable)
- Exposure to manufacturing conditions (noise, machinery, temperature variations)
Work Environment
- Manufacturing/industrial setting with a mix of office and production floor responsibilities
