HJF is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician II to provide administrative support to social workers, psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and other mental health providers; to provide outpatient care for patients on the USU campus. This role involves direct care and support for individuals with mental health and behavioral challenges. This role involves performing intakes and surveys, and will assist in implementing treatment plans, monitoring patient behavior, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.

This position will be in support of USU's School of Medicine's Family Health Clinic (SOM-FAM), located in Bethesda, MD.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Coordinate provider and patient schedules, duty locations, room utilization, and service coverage.
  • Collaborate with the clinic's multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform patient intakes and surveys, relay observations relevant to providing good mental health care.
  • Maintain clinical and non-clinical electronic records and up-to-date documentation of patient interactions and observations.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate group and individual activities aimed at promoting positive behavioral changes.
  • Maintain clinic website and monitor and assist student enrollment in the Insync patient portal.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Associate Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Behavioral Health Technician certification.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of basic behavioral health principles, crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of clinical or general research techniques required.
  • Experience in or exposure to research in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.

  • Familiarity and experience with research design and data collection.
  • Competence in oral and written communication.
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office & Google Suite.
  • Experience with Genesis a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinical and office setting.

Compensation

  • The pay range for this position is $19.33 - $27.89. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
