Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at CUMC

This is an opportunity to join the Department of Psychiatry at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Columbia University Department of Psychiatry is one of the largest in the country in terms of faculty size as well as state, federal, and foundation research support. We are currently among the top-ranked in the nation for Psychiatry in the US News & World Report Best Hospital rankings, as well as in psychiatric research funding from the National Institutes of Health. We have extraordinary clinical, educational, and research resources. Our faculty includes over 400 psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and neurobehavioral scientists. Clinical facilities and laboratories of the Psychiatry Department are located in a large number of institutions and healthcare systems. These include NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, the New York State Psychiatric Institute, the New York State Office of Mental Health, and the Washington Heights Community Mental Health Center. The Department of Psychiatry also houses the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior, the Mind/Brain Institute, a Howard Hughes Research Institute and the Stanley Center for Applied Neuroscience of Bipolar Disorders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Design and conduct independent research studies focused on pediatric anxiety and OCD using functional neuroimaging (e.g., fMRI)

* Lead study development, including protocol design, implementation, and data collection

* Perform advanced statistical analyses of neuroimaging and behavioral data

* Prepare and submit grant applications (e.g., K-award, R-series) to support an independent research program

* Author and co-author manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

* Collaborate with faculty within the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and across interdisciplinary teams

* Contribute to the development of innovative, mechanism-based interventions for youth mental health

* Participate in mentoring trainees and junior research staff as appropriate

* PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field

* Demonstrated expertise in pediatric anxiety, OCD, and/or related internalizing disorders

* Experience with functional neuroimaging methods (e.g., fMRI), including study design and analysis

* Strong track record of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications

* Evidence of or strong potential for securing external research funding (e.g., K-award)

* Experience with advanced statistical and computational methods relevant to neuroimaging research

* Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research environments

* Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines

* The ability to create a high-energy, results-oriented work environment that encourages collaboration and shared success
